I have a work permit which states my place of work in Bangkok.

I don't really go to office all that much, mostly work from home. My question is can I live in any other part of the country and continue working from home, or I have to stay in BKK?

My guess is it shouldn't be a problem, but what if there is some random check and they ask to see my WP? Can that be an issue? I am thinking Chiang Mai.

Also, I understand for the 90-day reporting I have to go to the immigration in BKK. But if I leave the country within the 90 days to get the stamp, do the both exit and entry have to be at the BKK airport? Or can I take a flight from Chiang Mai? I have a multiple re-entry permit.

Apols, if it has been covered before. I could not find it.

Your work permit has a place of work on it. That is where you are expected to be. More than one location can be added on or a as needed statement.

There is no restriction on where you can leave the country from. It can be from any airport or border crossing.

Thank you!

I am guessing it will require a legitimate business reason to add another location and the company will have to provide it? Or can I just go to the labour office and do it myself?

Good question regarding location of work. My job can take me all over the country but my work permit states place of work is Samut Prakarn. It would be impossible for me to state other locations, just too many . Never been asked to show my work permit anywhere, but keep a copy when travelling and I believe the original permit has to be kept at your place of work.

Will ask our lawyer lady on Monday.

Will appreciate it. My company folks are mostly clueless about these things, so I thought I will ask here. I am just looking to live in different places in the country, while working for this company.

The company can request the work permit have a statement that your work requires you to work at various locations.

Work permit should be in your possession not locked up at place of work. There is no requirement for it to be kept there.

My work permit bascially has words to the effect that I would be working country wide and in 13 years never had a problem, I have had a few occassions were an original WP was asked for and had to be shown (not a copy)

there is no rule which says it has to be kept at your place of work, and for anyone who is working at various locations throughout the country, to me it would be advisable to keep the original with you, just in case.

Is it a complicated process to get those words included in the WP? I am not sure my company folks will know what to do. Do you know how to go about it, then I can just tell them what to do.

I don't think it is worth trying to have your home added to your work permit as a work location. Your need to provide some documentation to show that the owner of the property has given permission for it to be used as an office by your company which could prove difficult. Unless you are going to be having troops of business visitors or otherwise causing a disturbance that might result in complaints that you are working there without a WP, noone is going to come and investigate. Technically you do need the location noted on your WP if you are doing any work from home but even Thai officials have not got so anal as to make this an issue. If they did you could be arrested for thinking about work at home or in numerous other locations, including restaurants where you conduct business lunches.

I think to hold up against immigration investigators out to get you any other locations noted in your WP should include the address. If it is not the same company as your employer, it is a separate job, not just a separate location, and needs to be noted as such in the WP.

" If it is not the same company as your employer, it is a separate job, not just a separate location, and needs to be noted as such in the WP."

You make that sound so easy. You skipped over the fact that the second company needs to get permission from the first company, and provide all documents and paperwork just like the first one did.

" If they did (edit: make this an issue), you could be arrested for thinking about work at home..."

Did you post that with a straight face?
