koeko
Hey there, I wanna move there and have a few questions: is it a good soi for a foreigner? are there many foreigners living there? Went there a couple of times and didn't see much. Where does the name come from? "Siam Country Club"? I'm surprised to find English words in soi name Why there is a big red panel saying "Home of Honda" when entering the soi? Honda's CEO has a house there or what? I've been there a couple of times and seen a small fresh market, 7/11, Tesco Express, BigC mini, but are there anything else interesting that I should know in this road? How is the traffic to get to the Sukhumvit Road? The village I'll be moving to is about 5 KM far from the Sukhumvit, is it a good location or is it "too far from the city"? Are there any water issues? I mean when it's raining is the road like a big swimming pool? By the way are there any inconvenient from living in a house there? I was thinking of electric cuts, water cuts, internet cuts, the king of things that I never experienced in a condo in pattaya. Cheers!

koeko
From http://siamcountryclub.com/oldcourse/about.php Shortly after the Old Course was opened in March 2007, it hosted a world class tournament, Honda LPGA Thailand 2007 in October. In February 2009, the tournament moved to Siam Country Club Pattaya Plantation. Since 2010, the Old Course has become home of the LPGA tournaments in February. Events such as the LPGA are testimony to the quality of the golf course, clubhouse, and services. So because there was one event from Honda in 2007 in this golf course we are now displaying "Home of Honda" at the entrance of the road? That's a big honor for Honda! (and for the golf course as well) Edited October 9, 2013 by koeko

petercool
I am up around "Lake" Mabprachan and it suits me fine in all respects. I am not sponsored by Honda, though. Most road signs have English on them even if they are just transliterated from Thai. But since you probably wouldn't find a Siam Country Club in England ........ anyway, that is not the official name of that Soi, just a convenient reference name. How much does it take you to get to Friendship Supermarket in south Pattaya? and how about to the beach? (Jomtien's one) I'm guessing a good 20 minutes drive, correct? Regarding the soi name, good point I didn't see that it's actually "porn prapa nimit" (translated from "porn papa, gimme!")

canman
5 K from Suk is a good distance. Close enough to get to town when you want but far enough up the road to feel like you are out of the rat race. I lived 4 years on SSCC and around the top of the lake. Great place to live. KittenKong
The date on the pictures is Dec 2012. Though judging from the angle of the shadows they were probably taken very early in the morning when there isn't much traffic. As you mention, most of the rest of the time the traffic is pretty solid. I would not want to have to cross Sukumvit every time I wanted to go somewhere, and whilst I quite like going to the darkside to eat from time to time there isnt enough choice and variety of restaurants and other things there to keep me happy every day.
Turkleton
^^ depends on what you expect. I like it here, much more selection of decent houses for rent Much less crazy traffic Much less morons tourists here and not jammed by the "Bangkokian hoardes" on the weekends Enough bars and "etablissements", if you like this kind of amusement. I hate it every time, when I have to go to the "bright side", fortunately not that often. Makro, BigC, etc. at Sukhumvit are easy to reach. And seriously, how many times you need go to Foodland or Friendship every week?
daveyravey
My mate has had a house over on SSCC for 10 years. I stay there when i visit Pattaya and it's great. Lots of bars if thats your thing, and not many tourists. I will observe it is now getting very busy at peak times.
Popular Post NanLaew
The OP's '5 km' up SSCC places him around SP Village 5 area which is the quieter end of the road, just before it doglegs around the bottom of Mabprachan. Some nice lake view drinking and dining of you head east towards the golf course and around the east end of the lake. If Friendship on Pattaya Tai is a major or regular point of navigation and the OP has his own wheels, he better learn the alternative routes versus SSCC to Sukhumvit and south to Pattaya Tai and then seawards. Unless of course the shopping is done early morning Mon-Fri then it's quite manageable; drive in just before the rush hour, do the shopping, have a coffee and then drive home after the rush hour. Avoid driving anywhere along Sukhumvit at the weekends! Anyway, to answer the OP's specific questions: 1. Loads of foreigners in the villages. You won't be alone. They won't see you either when you are inside your house, no? 2. The Siam Country Club golf course is at the end. As you have sussed out, it does have it's Thai name. 3. Read the sign. Honda sponsored a couple of LPGA (golf) tournaments at #2. 4. There's some bars and restaurants scattered along it's length, mostly afternoon and evening venues. Many more bars with more... esoteric themes and mainly daytime timings abound in the side streets. I wouldn't say there are 'loads' of bars... but there's enough. 5. Traffic bottlenecks and gridlock in the morning and late afternoon rush hours, especially at the Sukhumvit end. The double intersection at the railroad tracks should take you about 2-3 weeks to suss out how it 'works'! 6. Generally speaking, there's no flooding but when the seasonal downpours are heavy (like now), there's flash-flooding, moreso on the narrower streets off the sides. Putting other misconceptions to rest: 1. Most of the mosques are over on Nernplabwan, only a few on west-end of SSCC so no worries. 2. The 'river' is on Boonsampan (think flash flood on steroids). Worth looking at in full flow after a gully washer but don't drive a motorbike, just stop and watch till it eventually drains away. Crotch rockets get unstable and hard to steer much over 3 knots current downhill.
jimmybkk
I've lived there for 7 years. Very happy there... As for the naming of the Sois in Pattaya, I think that is a sign that you've made it, when the Soi is unofficially named after your business... (Yamoto. Day & Night. Diana. Xcite etc....) koeko
Thanks all for the replies! I will be moving to a new village not yet finished near the football stadium about 5 Km from the Sukhumvit. There are only a few houses finished and only a few people who moved-in, and I'm a bit concerned by two things: 1 - the terrible construction noise during the day (they said it'll be over in two months, but to me it looks like it's gonna take at least a year to finish all the houses and buildings!) 2 - dogs!!! yes you heard right, there are about 9 dogs "living" in this new village!!! Each time I go there they're barking and running after me. My friend told me that once they'll get to know me they'll stop attacking me but I'm not so sure... still scary if I wanna have any guests. That's about it! Regarding the traffic, I was there at about 6:30 PM and it was a NIGHTMARE like I never saw in my entire life! Especially at the junction with the Sukhumvit... What are your thoughts about points 1 and 2 above?
edh
1. How many more houses being built? It all depends on how many workers the developer has quality of build and flow of material. Took my developer a bit over a year and a half to complete 28 houses. 2. A serious developer would have taken care of the dog problem. Let him/her know about it. Thanks all for the replies! I haven't seen more than 10 or so workers, and there are at least 15 houses not finished + many big buildings (townhouses) for which even the structure is not yet finished. With only 10 workers there's no way on earth they can finish everything within 2 months! And they still manage to make a hell loud noise we can't even hear each other when talking, must close windows and still pretty loudy... Did I mention the entry road being pure sand at the moment?? Can't even walk there, if you don't have a vehicle you simply cannot leave the village without putting your foot into some 20cm deep wet dirty sand! Regarding the dogs problem, it seems that they "belong" to one of the now owners who moved there, she keep one dog locked in, and all the other 10 dogs are standing in front of her house, barking and attacking anyone who'd come by! This is a deal breaker for me
NanLaew
I would assume that you are renting if you have no firm idea of what the developments time frame is for completion? If you are buying, maybe not enough reason to pull out, lose deposits,etc.. The rains play hell with construction so I would not be surprised that they throw more bodies at it next month... or whenever it stops raining. Regarding dogs... well, that is Thailand for you. If you notice around now there's lots of dogs standing in roads and odd places and not paying much heed to traffic. It's dog shagging time! The lady's locked up dog is a bitch and the other nine hanging about... well, a bit like a bar in WS actually. There's not much you can do but there is a forum member who's name I have forgotten at the moment who is a pretty hot with a sinker and keeps his Soi clear of mutts. koeko
I went to Soi Khaonoi which is parallel to Soi Siam Country Club, beside all the Chockchai villages is there anything interesting there that I should know of? By the way look at what I just found in Soi Siam Country Club: FRENCH BAKERY!!! no need to go all the way to Friendship Supermarket!! http://newpattaya.com/news/holland-tulip-bakery-and-cafe-soi-siam/ Now I hope that it's the real deal like the ones sold in Friendship (south Pattaya) or Foodmart (Jomtien) and not this shit they sell in Foodland! Pattaya Pat
Koeko - You seem to be a bit of a character which is quite unusual for these forums. That bakery is pretty good but you have to get there reasonably early or the bread gets sold out. You can also eat in there, they have a decent menu and do english breakfast and stuff like that,
