What is it with all the fugly bikes nowadays? I'll wait for the new Honda as I prefer to spend my money on something of quality (hence Kawa or Ducati will never see any of my cash).

A Honda fan claiming that Ducati bikes are ugly while Honda makes the most boring looking bikes (not to say 'ugly') in the market. How can the likes of a NC700X, CBR 250 or FB6 (to name just a few) ever compete with the design of a Ducati Monster, Multistrada or Hypermotard? Seriously - get real dude. The only reason why Honda can sell their bikes so cheap is because they don't spend any notable money on design. They are light years behind Ducati and most other motorcycle brands in this aspect.

And claiming that Kawasaki and Ducati motorcycles are of low quality is just plain ignorant if not offensive. Me and many of my friends own a ER-6N, Versys, Ninja or KLX in Thailand and take them for tours all over South East Asia. I can't remember a single one of them ever complaining about the quality of their bike. I can however remember Honda recalling many of their CBR250's last year due to engine/brake issues (type 'cbr 250 recall engine' on google.com and you will see what I'm talking about). Why don't you try thinking before writing something next time Wong!?

I'm a Ducati owner, but thinking about getting a new Z800 for street duties

garry, there is a high possibility like you might change your decision after seeing new hypermotard close enough and sit on itbiggrin.png

Don't get me wrong, I like them, but they feel too small for me. :)

Sorry for expressing an opinion on a discussion forum. To my eye, Kawas and Dukes are fugly and Kawas unrefined compared with other brands.

Does one have to be a sheep to post on here?

No surprise there - your profile pic says it all. Well not everybody can have a sense of aesthetics - not your fault I guess.

Just out of curiosity I ran the search term 'ugliest motorcycles' on google and clicked on the first link. Here is what I got:

http://eatsleepride.com/c/15768/Top_Tens__Ugliest_motorcycles_of_all_time

Hmmm 3 Hondas in that list but only 1 Ducati and no Kawasakis blink.png

Other freakishly fungly Honda bikes that come to mind are the CX500, DN, PC800 The list goes on and on...

And here is the next monstrosity Honda has planned for 2014: http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/624/15484/Motorcycle-Article/Honda-Reveals-CTX700-Models-for-2014.aspx (don't forget reading the comments near the bottom).

man actually, 35 inch seat and low pegs of hypermotard provide cool ergonomics even for long riders. You might fit hypermotard better than a z800 imo. but yes, it looks smaller than z800 and keep in mind 30 kg of weight difference.

also you can go dirt with hypermotard:)

But tastes and budget and all, life is yours of course.

The Yamaha MT-08 will give the hypermotard a run for its money if it is released in Thailand but it has styling issues you would need to overcome.

MT-09...The 08 is the FZ8N which is already available. If priced right the MT-09 could be a great alternative, also had great reviews.

well wong just stressed his thoughts same as you expressed your feelings about bland and ugly hondas! he has right to find one bike ugly as you do and sure a honda is more reliable than a ducati and mostly more refined.

never forget 3000 km valve checks my friends need to go through. availability of parts and a shop that can fix a ducati is another concern.

different bikes for different feelings and set of minds.

ducati for heart and honda for mind.

So you've not ridden the bike, just "familiar" with the brand? But you somehow form an opinion on how It handles to the point of saying you will be "doubting your life" and it can't pass? Huh? It's a 110hp motorbike, I think it can pass in the blink of an eye!

I've certainly exaggerated for the sake of an healty banter. However if I'm not wrong these bikes have a 796 engine meaning nominal 81 HP at the crank, not exactly a fist shaking figure.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ducati_Hypermotard

One reason why these bikes leave me yawning is because they are mostly unchanged Pantah's (introduced in 1980).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ducati_Pantah

Great bikes at the time and won races too, buit a little long in the teeth now. To impress me Ducati should sell what they use to race, that is 4 cylinders not 2. Here's an article comparing that racing engine with a "boring Honda" one.

http://www.cycleworld.com/2013/08/01/technical-analysis-90-degree-v-four-engine-motogp-racing-technology/

The new Testastretta engine in the Hypermotard has 110 bhp, 3 power settings and is water cooled unlike the 87bhp air cooled unit in the Monster 795/796. Many people are speculating that the Monster will get the Testastretta engine in 2014.

I agree - that CTX700 is fugly. Obviously designed for the US market.

@II2

3000km Valve checks are no doubt a pain in the butt. Seems like the new Hypermotard needs the valves checked only at 30,000 km though:

http://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2013-ducati-hypermotard-hyperstrada-preview/

A good sign for the future. I like to think that Audi's acquisition of Ducati last year will have a positive effect on the overall build quality of Ducati bikes.

yep. 30 k km valve check intervals are pretty good. everything is not only valve check though.

still this new 821 cc engine and bike might be a good, reliable one.

and, i believe some goodness on audi's possible quality and reliability touch.

but also fear like audi might make ducati so clinically germanized.

if you see a four cylinder ducati soon, don get surprised!

That bike was developed before Audi bought Ducati so there won't be any effects from that. However, Duc has been moving towards more usable service intervals and such, also on the Diavel.

The hyper has great reviews except for the seat; I think at 500k it's good value compared to both Z800 and Monster 795.

A monster 795 is 440k with ABS so that's just 60k more for a much better bike.

Z800 is 375k but without ABS - I am guessing with ABS it'll be over 400k. The hyper also has traction control (not available on Z800) and riding modes and weighs 20kgs less, and has the same amount of HP. So while it's not an outright better value, it's at least competitive. Also looks way better. Not a big fan of the Z800 looks to be honest - the Z250 looks better.

So yeah it's not a supermotard - way too heavy for that. But it still looks like a great bike.

Concerning the Monster, as you stated, it will most probably be a 1200cc Testastretta

Yes, the days of calling Ducatis unreliable and maintenance heavy are well ver.

I am now on my 2nd Ducati here in BKK. Bought them both from Ducati Tonglor. No issues with reliability and service. As long as you keep them fairly standard it doesn't cost much more to ride than any other bike.

Most money goes into mods when you own a Duc.

I strongly recommend everybody who is interested in purchasing a new Hyper...... 820 to spend many hours on this side before making a decision.

Have fun reading!

Why this site ? Bad reviews ? Good reviews ? Good information ? When you say strongly recommend before buying it sounds like you are sounding a warning , is this your intent ?

LOL, I believe you are asking questions which could be answered by spending 5 minutes on the site.

No warning. Just saying that research is essential before spending a lot of money on a bike. Anyhow, this is just the best Ducati forum around with loads of valuable information.

when you say "strongly recommend before buying" sure sounds like a warning to me . The last paragraph is the way that I would have put it in the first place .

But thanks for the link , you are right lots of good stuff there .

This is the dedicated forum for hyperstrada.

They have ecu problems and sime guys needed their ecus updated 3 times!

Also seat gets bad reviews and most waiting for an aftermarket seat.

Owners also speak abour high speed wobble so most wants a steering damper.

Besides, many find fork soft for super spritied riding. But 500 usd andreani fully adjustable fork is there for hyperstrada.

Apart from these, not many problems. Of course bikes are new and not many passed 5000 km yet.

Hi Wong, you're not hurting my feelings at all and I'm a Ducati owner. Express away. Though you have to accept that there will always be folks who take offense at someone tainting the image of their preferred marque. Opinions are like ar$eholes, everyone has one :D

Hyperstrada or hypermotard?

I need some opinions. Seems like if they were the exact same bike, then the strada would be a steal - better saddle, windscreen which I would want anyway, and touring bags for 50k baht more is a very good deal.

However I am concerned that the strada is lower and also has maybe a less sporty suspension set up - sounds like it is the station wagon of the hyper family? The looks are fine, i played around with the Ducati configurator and the strada is just stunning. There are tons of upgrades, most of which seem to add some carbon here or there, undoubtedly for astronomical prices.

I think there will be a Versys for sale soon with a new engine ;)

Met a german guy at ducati shop and he is also selling his versys for hyperstrada nikster. I think very normal to do that:D

Strada has a softer fork with less travel reviews say.

But rear shock of strada is a better gas shock.

Juat go forward nikster!

I am fairly sure that if you buy one, you will buy the Strada. Front suspension on both models will be crap and needs upgrading for sure. This can easily be fixed by buying some stiffer Ohlins springs for around 150 USD or so (I guess). I still believe rear suspension is the same only maybe different settings.

You think the Strada is lower but I think it's higher Or the same height. The SP will be higher.

One problem with Ducati is that their are tons of upgrades which can easily make the bike very expense. Have to be careful.

Good luck!
