BANGKOK, Oct 16 - Bangkok was hit by a drenching downpour early this morning with rain averaging 80-90 millimetres, and Min Buri as well as Khlong Sam Wa were also heavily hit with 90 millimetres of rain, all part of the last performance of Typhoon Nari which brought disruption and destruction across east Asia.

Some areas of the Thai capital were flooded this morning due to the slow drainage of rainwater. The authorities have sped up drainage works to lower the water level in Khlong San Saeb to create spare capacity for draining water.

Now only a low pressure cell bringing abundant rain to a broad landscape that needs no more, the remains of Typhoon Nari has lost its storm power but now stretches across Thailand's northeast and east still more rain.

Today and tomorrow more rain and isolated heavy rain is expected along with winds over the Northeast and the East, not only at Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani as earlier reported by the weather agency, but moving west and south to Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, and Si Sa Ket.

From today through Saturday, another rather strong high pressure weather system from China will extend over upper Thailand leading to cool weather with a 5-8 degree Celsius temperature drop and in the North and the upper Northeast.

Typhoon Nari made its landfall at Da Nang, Vietnam and as it moved across Vietnam, the Lao PDR and into Thailand, it was downgraded to tropical storm, tropical depression and low pressure cell status. (MCOT online news)

BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has opened all sluice gates in the eastern area after several hours of heavy rain over the capital. The downpours, which started around 2am Wednesday, are likely to continue for the next few days.

BMA drainage office chief Adisak Khantee said that the city saw the maximum accumulated rainfall in Min Buri (80 millilitres) and Din Daeng (83 millimetres), while water level in canals were on rise. The office thus took the decision to open all sluice gates in Eastern Bangkok to drain excess water out of Bangkok in readiness for the expected rainfall. Officials would continue to the monitor situation, especially as high inflows of seawater are forecast for tomorrow.

Rainfall tops 139mm in Bangkok's east

BANGKOK: -- The BMA flood prevention centre reported Wednesday that the city's maximum accumulated rainfall was at 139 millimeters in Suan Luang district, followed by Min Buri at 130, Sai Mai at 119.5, Din Daeng at 93 - while other areas of the city braved rainfall from 20100 mm.

While main roads were not flooded, smaller roads and sois in Nawamin, Lat Phrao, Chokchai 4 and Bang Na suffered from flooding caused by clogged drainagepipes, the centre said.

I told him he must be wrong because the PTP said so

3 weeks ago, it was announced by the PM's office that there would be no flooding this year. Then last week it was announced that there may be some flooding, then today it was announced that there will be 3 more weeks of flooding. They certainly have the possibilities surrounded.

A defamation case against the weather Gods has been deposed to the Courts by PM Yingluk and Plopprasot for "causing heavy rainfall in Thailand and specially in Bangkok".

PM Yingluk told the newspapers yesterday that it was illegal to cause heavy rainfall in Bangkok after her declaration that there would be no flooding in Bangkok this year.

The weather Gods chose specially Bangkok to share the heavy rainfall and put the PM and midget Plopprrasot in a bad position.

PM did also call the DSI to probe if the weather Gods have violated other laws by causing flood in Bangkok and she asked the DSI to bring forward to the courts all documents on this case.

A preliminary decision of the courts is expected by end of this year.

If the court finds that the weather Gods have violated the laws declared about flooding in Bangkok by PM Yingluk and Plopprasod, the punishments for this crime can be from 10 Baht to 1,000 Baht and a suspended jail term of 250 years.
