I was reading the comprehensive notes and rules that apply to members who post in TV and it occurred to me what a difficult job it must be to moderate. Obvious flames and trolls usually sink quickly without trace; they're the easy ones to cut out or lock off. There are of course the odd ones that get through which are marginal, some more cleverly disguised, others missed in the sheer volume of words.

So, my question is, how are moderators trained to make decisions, what happens in the boardroom discussion, who takes responsibility, what is the nature of the moderator beast?

It would be nice to have some insight from the top which communicates the machinations of the business and provide us with day to day problems facing such an online model.

Might be a way of educating the general public and accepting some well earned kudos at the same time.

There was another thread on here about who would want to be a moderator which stayed open for quite some time.

I guess he isn't actually discussing moderation but just asking how they are trained. In my view it is obvious they are not.

Dr Robert ... probably you're asking the wrong crowd because we don't know either and it's my assumption that none of the Moderators would publicly discuss what goes on behind closed doors ... and maybe, nor should they.

You talk about 'marginal posts' ... well, the Mods are human so that 'invisible line' most likely would be different for every Mod ... same as it is for me or you.

Probably, also what Forum your discussing the subject in has a bearing.

The Pub Forum, probably allows a little more robust banter then say this, the General Forum.

I think, what must be hard for the Mods is that they have to deal with the worst of the negativity, yet not let that burn them out.

It's a thankless task for sure ... but someone has to do it.

One thing for sure ... it would certainly thicken your skin ... Modding that is ... w00t.gif

"Obvious flames and trolls"

Personally, I dont think there's any greater example of complete and utter disrespect for others when posters start shouting "TROLL, TROLL".

Every time I see such post I picture myself the poster being a three year old girl who has wet her Hello-Kitty panties running around looking for mom. Which is probably not far from the truth.

Read the rules chaps:

21) Not to discuss moderation publicly in the open forum; this includes individual actions, and specific or general policies and issues. You may send a PM to a moderator to discuss individual actions or email support (at) thaivisa.com to discuss moderation policy.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
