Yup. My sentiment s exactly on resale and repairs especially after the 3 year warranty.

Volvo stopped doing the 5 year warranty ?

Parts are made in Malaysia.

I hear constant worries about the price of repairs, how often are "repairs" needed nowadays? I couldn't tell you the last time I had to repair a car, we run a car and truck which are 2 - 3 years old, even previous vehicles that were older just kept running.

You dont run Fords obviously.biggrin.png

Same here...have Honda and Toyota SUVs over 10 years each and only repair has been new radiator for the Honda after 10 years and 100k. Other an that, just scheduled maintenance.

I'm also interested in the V40S but it seems that the Thai-version of V40 lacks the Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist which would be very sad. I will head out and test drive it on Friday and see if it is true.

My main concern would be why to pay that ridiculous high price for the car based on import taxes. Volvo is made where now? Sweden? Guess not. China? Has it still FoMoCo stickers? Could buy a Mazda as well smile.png

Who cares? It comes down to the consumer price. Like it, then buy it, don't like it, don't. How the price is build up really does not matter.

Please do let us know your impressions. You're right, the Queue Assist would really be missed here given the traffic (in BKK) maybe they though it couldn't cope with how bad it gets here versus Europe.

Would this Queue Assist thing leave a gap ? if more than a few inches then everyone would cut in front, so would take you a long time to move in BKK...

It isn't a high price for a turboed engine with that quality of build and interior. You could always buy a tedious Jap box with a hideous plastic and brown interior instead with half the power to weight ratio and awful bland chassis and half the crash protection missing from the European models.

They are made in Malaysia and are subject to Asean import tax not the full amount. I think a bit below 100% instead of the 234%.

The V40 cost almost the same in my home country as it does here with the same equipment. My main concern is resale value, not a high purchase price. Read about a guy was offering 800K for a 3 year old 2.6M at Volvo, but only IF he traded it in for a new one. Scary.

If adding another 800K i would get a Mercedes CLA 250 AMG Sport, probably with a much better resale value and faster and cooler too clap2.gif

What are you thoughts about that?

That explains the Protons on the road. Was wondering where they come from. Hopefully not the same factory biggrin.png

Sat in a V40 T5 today and was impressed with the finish and trim.

My concerns would be resale value and repairs.

I did the same, went to test drive it today but I had only time to sit and look at it due to bad traffic and time constrains. I really like the car even if it lacks adaptive cruise control, queue assistance, and glass roof, navigator.....

The resale value if of my biggest concerns now.

I even looked at the cross country model but the Thai-version lacks all above AND AWD :-o so it is no-no for me.

Haiz....looks like the perception of low resale value of Volvo is going to be around for sometime. I hope Volvo dealers do something to allay potential buyers soon. Volvo does not dominate the market and there are strong competition from Benz and Bmw.

Cars assembled in ASEAN from at least 40% ASEAN parts get 5% import duty. Cars assembled in Australia with engines > 3,000cc get 0% duty. All other imports get 80% duty.

All are still subject to excise + interior taxes, and VAT, regardless where they are made.
