Wheel Clamping on Kata

Featured Replies

I was down in Kata yesterday and as the parking is generally crap there I decided to ride the bike down. There was no parking anywhere so I parked on the grass where club med is. It wasnt blocking the footpath and was well out of the way. Halfway through my Tiger I noticed a pickup truck and 2 Thai dudes taking a photograph of my bike and starting to chain it up. I managed to stop them and tried to pay them on the spot. But they insisted I pay at the station. When I got there the cop charged me 1000 baht. I always thought it was 500. Did I get handled or is that the new price? He mumbled something about 5000 baht. Perhaps that grass is private property. Anyone else been fined at Kata recently?

I can only assume that your fame for denegrating the Thai police here on TV has reached the attention of the Boys in Brown and you are now paying the price. Well done thumbsup.gif

I was reffering to a different branch LIK. :)

Nah they dont know me. Perhaps they thought I was a tourist. He was very adamant about it being 1000 baht

If you look at the traffic codes in Thailand, the fines are stated as a range. It's probably 500-1000B.

No receipt. Just sign in 3 places. The guy was in a hurry. I just found it odd that when I get wheel clamped in Patong its 500 baht and in Kata its 1000baht

And yours would be the brown noser post of the day.

Was this down on the grass next to the car park? I don't know of any other grass area in Kata on the beach as the rest is just dirt/sand/rubbish next to the road.

Right next to the carpark opposite where those elephant statues are, one road back from the beach. Its where club med starts. Sort of opposite Cappaninas

I don't believe thats a official sign and if so not legal.

But as you did not receive a receipt it was 100% a ripoff

Max fine is i believe 500 Bath.

A 100% rip off on Phuket is a good deal.

Usually, it's a 300% to 500% rip off. :) :)
