Parents, tourists prey on children

It could be that it's not enforced in Bangkok but why do you see more articles on pedophiles in Pattaya vs. Bangkok? I think it's because Pattaya is a well know destination for pedophiles. Can anyone here really deny that Pattaya has more of a problem with pedophiles than many places in the world?

Could it have something with the fact that Pattaya has the spotlight on it at all times? Message boards, several online english newspapers and millions of visitors coming here too.And when a foreigner here is caught in illicit sex acts his name is spread out all over the news drawing attention to it,while in most western countries it`s hardly mentioned when a pedophile is caught.

15 million live in Bangkok, its a huge place,i would bet that this goes on more in Bangkok, purely because of some of the low class that go there

Public Safety

Bangkok is one of the world's most populated and crowded cities, and like most major cities, Bangkok has problems with crime. As Bangkok's population grew in the latter half of the twentieth century, so too did its crime rate. The number of murders, assaults, thefts, and armed robberies all increased. Smuggling is widespread in Bangkok, with drugs, endangered animal products, and stolen antiques all passing through the city.

International pressure has been exerted to urge Thailand to deal with two major criminal problems: child prostitution and the opium drug trade. With prostitution having a semi-legal status in Thailand, advocacy groups have been formed to address childhood prostitution and pornography. As for opium, rural Thailand is one of the world's major growers of poppies, used to make opium, and many nations have been pressuring Thailand to more aggressively combat the drug trade.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Police are responsible for providing law enforcement services for the city and its suburbs. The urban police force is operated by an appointed commissioner.

This post says Thailand not Pattaya, and we all know it goes on in Thailand, but to what degree

btw

Bangkok seems a bit dodgy too

Thailand does not receive overseas aid any more, apart from a few million from europe for certain projects, and is now considered to be a relatively prosperous country. So why are people so poor that they have to sell their children for child prostitution?

It doesnt make sense. There is something wrong somewhere.

Also, the morale standards are quite high in the UK. OK,one or two bad boys, but no Kareoke brothels,no girly bars,no sexy massage parlours. Although UK people do not go to church much, there are good christian standards that influence the day to day living of the people.

I have never known child prostitution in the UK. It might go on,but I have never head of it.Thank goodness.

A little online research reveals you are very wrong.

Beware for NGO's. They creates problems which are not there and blow up issues in order to get as much funding as possible. Remember Greyman and Destiny who made up false reports complete with press reports. It is never about the children it is about the employees and their lovely benefits.

I saw a post on thaivisa the other day about The Grey Man and how the truth has now be revealed that Police Corruption was behind The Grey Man being outed. If you go to the other blog you will see where all has been revealed.

Go and read it for yourself::: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/674409-the-grey-man-the-truth-revealed/#entry6925249

Exactly, and while there are still many facts to be verified, it does seem to lean towards TGM a lot, but not lean cut in their actions either.

This kind of article makes my blood boil.

O.K i'll have a drink of milk, deep breath and say Pattaya should be sent out to sea and sunk!

It does nothing but besmirch the great ancient nation of Siam and it's peoples at home or abroad to have the Achilles heal that is Pattaya associated with this great country.

I would like to ask all residents of Pattaya if anyone has heard about this, because i certainly havent in 10 years of living here.

Ships anchored ate sea???

child prostitution in go-go bars????

<deleted> is all this about, dreamland or reality ????

Have to agree, have not seen or heard.

This is totally exaggerated, there is no source for their claims. This reporting is criminal behavior, we have to start punishing liars for trying to infuriate people against sex and against asia. They are scared to death people will find out how cheap it is here and how friendly the people are. Asia is getting better and U.S. is going down and they don't want you to notice. They want to direct the anger away from wall street and the terrible gov onto imaginary people. They should be made to pay with jail time. Up to 2000 children roaming the streets in pattaya? a complete lie. I'll bet not even in the last 40 years total.

Are you for real? This is a ploy to keep people from traveling here? It's a known fact that this goes on. Are you really so daft that you think it's a plot to deflect anger about Wall Street? What are you smoking?

This information comes from the director of the Human Health Network Foundation director. He's the source for the 2,000 figure. And while you haven't seen it, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. . And while his figures may be exaggerated the problem is real. I have a condo in Pattaya and I can count two dirtbags that regularly bring youngsters with them to their rooms. I've called the police to no avail.

I am very VERY streetwise in Pattaya, and can get virtualy anything i wanted,if i wanted to do illegal activity here.If this is in certain circles,we need to find it and expose this disgusting trade.I realy do suspect that its not as bad as some say, even though 1 case is too many.

So the police line fails and what else do you do ? Nothing ?

There are plenty of other organisations to call that will help....but first, make sure the girls are underage, don't make a duffus of yourself and/or ruin a persons life because you jumped the gun and got it wrong.

But if they are underage, or youngsters as you describe which usually means very young, then deal with it.

Jesus, pay security to let you into his room and put in a hidden camera.

To deny this is happening is as sick as the perpetrators themselves. Shame on you, and shame on humanity.

What is this "i don't see it in shopping malls or in my local bar " so it can't be happening rubbish?

Just because you don't see the act taking place doesn't mean it isn't happening.

You cam here for cheap sex with second/third world hookers. So what is so unbelievable that there are others coming here for sex with second/third world kids?

Just take a look at the amount of pedophiles arrested in Pattaya. It is a hot spot destination for sex offenders from all over the world.

I don't know why I am bothering but....

The denial is that IT IS AT THE LEVEL DESCRIBED.

There is child abuse around the world. And it is probably higher in Pattaya, and Bangkok, and Hanoi, and every 3rd world city than in London. But it still exists in London. Poor children are used around the world.

The only comments I read from regulars to Pattaya state it is NOT as described in the article. There are NOT thousands of children clawing at your pants to sell themselves to the tourists. I do see street children. Most are trying to sell you some gum or trinkets. Some might have been taught how to steal. Many are kids taken from Lao and Cambodia and their future sucks. Many WILL be prostitutes in time. No doubt this is a travesty.

If you are unable to comprehend what other posters are commenting on why disparage them? NO ONE has defended pedophiles and no one will.

I will restate:

I have essentially lived in Pattaya for about 6 years in total. I have spend time in the gogo bars. I have spent time in the malls. I have spent time in the beer bars and massage parlors and every other venue offered in Pattaya. Yes, sex with WOMEN is offered on a staggering scale. It truly is the sodom and Gomorra of the modern era. And I don't doubt some of the offers are from underage girls (such as 16 or 17). And some men probably want that and search for it.

But I have NOT SEEN in all my travels the implied invasion of "children" ages 8-15 being used in the sex trade nor have I EVER been offered such a thing. True pedophiles are not accepted in public and I don't believe some of the BS I have read in this thread.

So what is your opinion on the countless arrests of western pedophiles in Pattaya? How do you explain that more western pedophiles have been arrested in Pattaya in the last 3 years than in all of the rest of Thailand? That is an undeniable fact. I don't want to have any more links removed by the moderators so just do a Google search. Moreover, check the Pattaya news on a weekly basis.

You say no one is defending it, but then why are so many people unwilling to directly address the amount of arrests? For a city of a little over 100,000 people, the volume of arrests is massive.

I am not saying it doesn't happen elsewhere. I am not saying child abuse doesn't happen all over Thailand, mainly by Thais. But what has been highlighted is the prevalence of western pedophiles operating in Pattaya because of the high volume of vulnerable children.

What is your problem with coming out and saying, yes, Pattaya, being a sex tourists paradise, is attracting an unhealthy amount of pedophiles. There's a worrying roadblock put up here by a lot of Pattaya residents, and it's this sort of denial and mocking of the HNN's efforts that will stop children being properly protected.

I have no doubt that child abuse and some child prostitution occurs in Pattaya. And drugs. And murders. And who knows what. And someone looking for it can probably find it there easier than in say Paris. But I don't buy the articles representation of Pattaya.

If you stay with the mainstream tourist gogos and beer bars and malls, even walking Beach Road, you are unlikely to be approached with an offer of underage kids for sex. OK, maybe underage like 16 but not children. Even that isn't right but it hardly qualifies as pedophilia or equates to the lurid accounting in the story.

I read stories where they arrest pedophiles sometimes and am gratified to read them. One case is too many. And it means they are not free to operate in the open. But, I can open the paper here in Phoenix AZ and find cases of this stuff so Pattaya isn't unique.

My hats off to anyone who fights pedophilia. Children deserve the right to grow up without being abused. But sensationalist stories like this don't do anything to really help anyone. Except the writer who got paid for the article.

Good post and kudos to the poster who puts his money where his mouth is for supporting the homes of the children.Underage prostitution,to me,is nothing like nonces preying on children. An adult going with a 17 yo hooker,to me, is a pervert and lacking self esteem.

Well, I don't claim to know everything that goes on in Pattaya. I mean who could? But I live there about 6 months a year and have done for over 10 years and I am not a stranger to the gogos, beer bars and Beach Road. I live 400 meters from Beach Road.

I do not see many underaged workers. I'm sure they are there but certainly not in anything like the quantity this article infers. In all my wanders I have to think I would see something such as mentioned in this article if it was as rampant as described.

And I have NEVER been approached by 2 ten year olds offering sexual services.

Ditto, been coming here for years, lived here for 3 and have never ever been approached by kids other than standard begging/selling gum etc. 2000+ kids living rough, selling themselves, errrm, where exactly you see that? As for the guy says pattaya should be sunk, great Nation of Siam, I'm assuming that was tongue in cheek right?

That's one hell of a way to behave, but it does neatly sum up the attitude that most "do-gooders" have: they are right, everyone else is wrong, they don't have to answer to anyone and anything they do to get what they want is entirely justified. I am far from convinced.

Personally I dont care what type of sex partner my neighbour brings home as long as they are doing it voluntarily and they dont make a noise and keep me awake.

Incredible!

Just like the Pattaya thread I was involved in the other day, not one Pattaya head addresses the facts. Not one person comments on any of the numerous links posted that prove that yes, Pattaya attracts more pedophiles than any other part of Thailand.

What pieces of the puzzle are you failing to put together here? This is why you have adopted the name "pattaya farangs" or "farang Pattaya" as Thais say.

I will spell it out for you. The pedophiles come to Pattaya because there's an abundance of street children to be taken advantage of.

There are currently 400+ children in the Pattaya orphanage, many of which have been taken off the streets. A percentage of these children will be factored into reports by the HNN.

Yes, the figure may be more like 1700, 1400 perhaps, but just the fact that the Pattaya orphanage website tells you where a lot of these children are coming from and the vulnerability they face on the streets of Pattaya should allow your brain to compute that Pattaya is attracting an unhealthy amount of pedophiles.

The police have the evidence. The police have numerous people under surveillance. We also have this problem in Bangkok, but the statistics and reports we get at work show that Pattaya is the main destination for pedophiles in Thailand.

I just can't see what you have to gain by completely denying cold hard evidence. You make yourselves look like you don't care about the children. It's as if you don't want to admit there's a problem. It's very disturbing.

Whenever I see numbers on TV, I like to look closer at the facts. Especially when it is sensational "news". In summary, " Currently the Pattaya Orphanage takes care of approximately 160 orphans, ranging from newborn to studying at the university level." and "More than 400 children have passed through this home in the 36 [years] since it was founded."

http://www.thepattayaorphanage.org/

http://www.hhnthailand.org/en/projects/pattaya-orphanage/

The HHN site does have the OP stats under another page titled "The Problem". Under the Pattaya Orphanage page, there is no mention of abused street kids ending up there.

Where are the facts? No doubt, HHN does some great work with the poor. But this OP has no facts backing it at all in its context.

It would help this NGO if real facts were presented.

I agree with everything you say.

IMO it's just another BS NGO trying to get mugs to part with their money to deal with something the police could stop today, if they wanted to, but we all know why they don't.

The only "child exploitation" that I know for a fact goes on in Pattaya is the use of very young children to make money on Walking St, by selling chewing gum or whatever to tourists ( with their parents lurking in the background ) and the young girl that does contortions on a table. All this goes on openly but the police and the so called "police volunteers" do nothing about it, ZERO, NADA, NOTHING. Shame on them.

And I should believe him why? If Ben Bernanke can spout BS about how there wasn't going to be a housing price collapse in the US, why should I believe someone I never heard of. His job probably depends on getting funding from the public, and what better way to do so that by publishing erroneous info designed to get people's "blood boiling"? It's called propaganda and lots of people do it.

< I've called the police to no avail.>

I wonder why???????????

Not supporting the Pattaya bashing, but in fact the Pattaya Orphanage does indeed run a home for street kids, and has done so for many years, along with homes for disabled, deaf, blind children and the elderly. If you live in Pattaya, well worth dropping in for a visit and perhaps donating money or sponsoring a child.

Never liked the place, and still don't after some 30+ years of visiting and in more recent years, living in Thailand.

Why do you keep visiting there then ?

Thaibeachlovers,I am English and I lived in London for 35 years. Soho is where the few London gangsters hang out with one or two jazz and strip clubs. Not a place for child prostitutes. You are right, the public telephone boxes have some postcard adverts. placed by prostitutes and the local councils get them removed frequently after complaints from the public. But no child prostitutes. There are one or two kids who hang around Piccadilly Circus but the social services move in and help them if they want to be helped.

Also, unlike other countries, the police are good for helping these people. The kids are not afraid and they tell the police their problems. The police then direct them to hostels etc.

Do not take too much notice of media reports. They just look for stories and exagerate everything.

Dont get me wrong, there are plenty of baddies in London. Its a tough city. But child prostitutes? Very few.

That's a lot of "ifs". I dont know that there are any scumbags involved, I dont know what the poster meant by "youngster" (anyone under 40 is a youngster as far as I'm concerned) and I dont know if anyone was "at risk".

And it's none of my business anyway.

I'm far more concerned that one of my neighbours might be prepared to illegally bribe his way into my condo unit simply because he doesn't happen to like something he imagines I might be doing.

The page "the Problem" on the "hhnthailand" website is typical twisted NGO talk to maximise donations.

I especially love the line:.... "Foreign pedophiles often try to "charm" poor families in order to gain acces to their children"

I have the feeling that this happens "often" in the fantasy of the editor of the page, but not in reality.

Pattaya is one of the cities in Thailand where the police actually try to do something about the problem

Goto rural Thai villages or Cambodia and the problem with street kids and prostitution is a much bigger problem.

So this article is basically a lie. They focused on the wrong city based on rumours.
