When they do sleep be sure to make enough noise to ensure they wake up every 15 to 20 minutes, especially after they've been drinking.

Maybe it's time to buy an angle grinder and some rebar of your own.

I agree.....but I would invest in some fireworks.....seems they are easy to come by here...."tit for tat" where I come from........as for the dog, I would invest in a nice-sized "walking stick" on my ventures out !!

Get a decent stereo and a copy of When the lion sleeps tonight, from the 50's w00t.gif

When they go to bed turn it on full blast and hit the repeat button. giggle.gif

Now get in your car and go out for a few hours cheesy.gif

It worked great for me in Australia one time whistling.gif

Just hope the neighbours dont start singing it when drinking facepalm.gif

Neighbors from hell? More like neighbors from Thailand.

I think you might have to deal with the dog, it sounds dangerous to me. Is this situation annoying to your partner? If not, then she is unlikely to go into battle on your behalf. One tactic I've employed with some success in issues where Thai beligerence, ingnorance and selfishness have become my problem is a little financial phsycology. Your wife should start a rumour about a falang that got bitten or where a dog caused an accident involving the falang, and how it cost SO much more in compensation and medical expenses because the victim was falang and talk about how everything is more expensive for falang. Thais love to gossip, and this story will no doubt eventially find the target. Go next door with some decent food for the dog, he'll be your friend soon enough. If they are gambling, try a rumour to talk up the amount of money going changing hands, the police will hear about it and sooner or later turn up for piece of the action. Do not, allow any of these actions appear to come directly from you. As an earlier post suggested, be their friend for appearance purposes.

I had a problem with with the Thai people a few houses away from me about 18 months ago, every day, opening the gate so the dog could sh#t in the road (mostly in front of my house). So i wrote a note in Thai saying "please stop you dog sh#tting in the street, and attached it to the gate. Great fun seeing them take the letter to all the Thai neighbours and ask if they wrote it? Did not think to ask me. They stopped it straight away, i presume they knew the Thai way of dealing with it is "special snacks"

Maybe worth trying something similar?

Attempting to reason with people like this is useless. The are from a different

world than you can even imagine. You say moving would be running away, I

think moving would be wise, and keep the situation from getting to a place

where someone gets hurt or worse. I would be looking for a new house TODAY,

and have an 1980's Boom Box or two blasting out my windows about 4 AM the day

I found my new home until I moved.

Time to Get the 1000 watt sound system out and blast a bit of music at crazy o'clock.

Yeah, Black Sabbath around 04:00, volume 11 as per Spinal Tap

Look on the bright side.

They are trying to improve Mae Sot.

Yes I agree, they are only there untill the job is finished.

Really, you need to eccept the situation, there is nothing you can do but perhaps to negotiate with the boss that all loud construction work must cease at say 6:00pm. Stressing about it will only send you round the bend!

Thanks for the responses. I rent and have no deposit. It is someone that i work with at the local hospital. The problem is that I am On Call most of the time so moving is not really that easy. I was lucky to find this place just 5 minutes on scooter from the hospital.

But I hear everything that was said. I like the bribe (beers) idea. Might try that one out... it worked in Hawaii when I was there for a time.

Again, thanks. I am now looking and have told my friend that I am looking top get away from the people next door. I have since ;learned that the actual owner of the house next door now lives in Umpang and has no idea what her house has been turned into. So that 'shoe' might drop. Who knows.

I doubt this would work. After all, if I knew you would play Black Sabbath at volume 11, I would actually enjoy living next to you. Now, the Massed Highland Bands on the other hand are an acquired taste!

I think everyone here sympathizes with you- because we have all been there! I recently bought a condo here in Naklua. It is a condotel kind of deal. From time to time we have Chinese guests who are impossibly loud. The slamming of doors in the corridor is truly unbelievable. In the States I worked as a night freight pilot for years and can offer this bit of advise: get used to wearing good quality ear plugs at night. When I hear the Chinese piling into the hallway screaming and door-slamming I always have the ear plugs handy. This won't help much during the day but should get you some good sleep at night. Good luck! D.

Excuse me for righteously indignant but NOBODY should EVER accept the kind of selfishness and inconsiderate behaviour we are talking about here. That this is Thailand is irrelevant and the time of day is irrelevant, it should never be 'put up with' and should be dealt with. One time my ex land lady moved in a window framing company next door and they started cutting window frames with a very loud machine all day, the noise was horrendous ! I went to the government office to complain, someone paid her a visit the next day and it stopped immediately. Yes she had the right to put what she wanted there but that kind of noise on a wall joining to a residential house the government agreed with me was wrong and they told her it wasn't acceptable. Bad behaviour should be pointed out and swiftly dealt with. The problem with moving apart from the hassle is the same stupidity happens again and again, you can't keep moving every time it happens. Someone here should start developments countrywide specifically for people who want to live in quiet areas where the rules will be strictly enforced. Guaranteed money maker !

Imagine if you owned your current house how you'd feel.

Even if this mob had rented 3 houses together that wouldnt change the noise issues.

Time to move unfortunately.

Time to move , indeed :(

HeijoshinCool as I understand things... it seems that they are here on a 1-year contract for the work they are doing... but as we all know... that will be extended.

Oh, man, sorry to hear that.

And, how many times have we heard of these kind of situations here?

Lots.

Have you spoken with the village head?

The village head is the only answer and even that can backfire. It is my understanding that the village leader makes first contact and if he gets no results he then calls the BiB. I did that once and it costs me a fortune in donations. Beer and he wanted Viagra. Major headaches, but I won and suffered in the aftermath from the small things they can make life miserable about.

In the end, I moved.

buy some nice loudspeakers and teach them nice western music. Play your favourite songs as often you like and loud is very important. Thais like loud music. Maybe you can Karaoke? And that all night long....I'm very sure they will like you after a while....

good point, have done so.

i listen rock, etc, quite loud, and sometimes youngsters come next to my house, listen, some of my ex students come to copy my music, lets say, not bad combination at all.

and for sure, new years eve, meet neighboors, drink with them, and my opinion, some thaisongs are quite ok, ie bird, loso, blackhead and some others.

depends what u like.

I totally understand how you feel. I have people making hospital in my moo-ban with BIG cranes. They yell from top of the crane to communicate EVERYDAY from 7am till sometimes midnight. It totally sucks that we can't do anything about the disturbance.

I often ask my wife why she bothers with a mobile phone; her own volume is sufficient to carry

Easy to deal with the dog issue. Get a squirt bottle and put some ammonia and give the dog a good dose when he comes up to bite you. It will only take one time and it will steer clear of you for the duration.

Sounds like the pikeys have moved in, 'd'ya like dags'.

"Yeah I like Dags...I like Caravans more" :) one of my favourite movies,

but back on track, damn OP you are really between a rock(the construction crew)and a hard place(the council etc)that couldn't care less about a "Falang Baa" who objects to "normal"(to those people)behaviour,

someone suggested making noise of your own while they sleep,I'm afraid that most likely won't work,

I have seen and heard at first hand a Thai family sleep through a protracted gunfight complete with sirens etc,as well as all kinds of construction noise etc...

I feel for you,but any suggestions I'd have would be subjective, not objective, and what may work for me may not for you...

I'm sure this is not meant seriously, but on the off chance that you are thinking of escalating the situation, I would caution strongly against it - you will lose. Your new neighbours are not deliberately setting out to annoy you, you are incidental to their lifestyle. In my opinion you have a few options, all of which involve persuasion, either on your part or through an authority figure such as the poo yai baan. Other than that, as others have said, your only option is to cut your loses. I repeat, you do not want to make enemies with local people, and in that I include Thais from wherever.

Actually the only thing that stops my neighbors from excessive music levels is to do exactly the same thing. As soon as they start playing their "mo-lum" music at excessive levels I put on some "Pink Floyd" at roughly the same level. Within minutes they turn theirs off. I do the same and it remains quiet until the next time they try it.

BTW they don't have a very good "learning level" as they try it at least one a week.
