coming to Thailand soon & was thinking of getting a local SIM to keep costs down. Im told I can get my phone ( Nokia C3-01) phone unlocked at MBK so i can do this. Anyone know how much this costs here?

I can get it the unlock code from Orange UK for £20 but I was hoping I could get it a lot less in BKK?

HaHa! Ill be paying a lot more than that if I just use my unlocked phone in Thailand tho! UK roaming charges are a rip off! Last year I paid an extra £120 & it was just mostly texting my brother around BKK!

Buy a cheapy phone here, and no worries if it gets lost or stolen.Keep it as "holiday phone"

No worries on people running up bills on your phone either if it gets lost etc.

dont spend 20 pounds on an unlock code. you can just get a cheap used cell phone in bangkok for 400 baht. then save it for the next holiday. get a happy dtac sim card for 100 baht and you are good to go.

Only way to do it

You can even buy a brand new Samsung for under £20 in Thailand.

and a local One 2 Call sim card for 50bt in 7/11.

So £20 and your ready to go with a local set up.

Today I ordered 2 of the new Google Nexus 5 smartphones. They are supposed to be unlocked worldwide, assuming the carrier uses the correct technology which most do.

I'll report back once I get them and get them working.

In the meantime I'd love to hear from others who have them. ?? :)

The cost was a very attractive US$349 each for the 16G models, with no contract. If I had wanted the 32G memory they would have been $399. But I have never used more than 4 gig, so that isn't important to me.

My hope is to bring one to Thailand and simply pop in another sim card. ??
