Hi

I have only just got a 15 month Multi-entry Non-Imm O Retirement visa, but as luck would have it, just been offered a short employment contract in Indonesia for 6 months. Do I need to complete and pay for a re-entry permit to keep my current visa valid (form TM 13) or can I just complete the arrivals card on my return ? Can anyone offer some help as I do not want to waste my current visa.

Thanks in anticipation

Never heard of such a thing. A retirement extension of stay is for 12 months, and an entry on an "O-A" is for 12 months. If you have a one year multi-entry "O", you would have been stamped permitted to stay 90 days, if so, just leave and re-enter the visa info when you return.

Thanks for your advice. By the way, this is a new application and is valid until January 2015 so it is 15 months. No idea why this was granted but my friends say its normal.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. If you went to immigration and received an extension of stay, then yes obtain a re-entry permit, and use that number upon entering thailand when you return.

You just complete the arrival card on your return to Thailand. Your visa allows you to enter Thailand for an unlimited number of times until the "enter before" date shown on your visa and for this reason you do not need a re-entry permit.

From what Thai consulate did you get your multiple-entry non-O visa?

In that case you are currently in Thailand on a one-year extension of stay and you should ignore everything I wrote.

More precisely, the Pattaya immigration office gave you a single-entry non-O visa and added to that a one-year retirement extension, hence the 15 months permission to stay you have.

As said you have an extension of stay not a visa. You need to get a re-entry permit.

You you wrote you have a multiple entry the only way that could true is if you had already gotten a multiple re-entry permit when you got your extension.

Why do so many expats here confuse the name of the piece of paper that entitles them to stay in the Kingdom. Must be something that Thai immigration could do to clarify the basis of stay in their passports?

My stamps say extension of stay permitted to xx date and year.

There is also a stamp telling me that I need to get a re-entry permit. And make 90 day reports.

To me that should be enough.

So pray tell me Ubonjoe, how on earth you tolerate and deal so kindly with all these plonkers getting it so hopelessly wrong on the threads!\

And while I'm on can I use my multiple non-O visa, which expired 4 days after I last entered Thailand one month ago, to convert to an annual extension (on basis of marriage, retirement or investment - I could otherwise qualify for any of those)

At times it's not easy. My wife just heard me mutter a bad word a bit ago when I read a post.

Just apply for a retirement extension if you want to instead of marriage during the last 30 days of your 90 day entry,

Just have your 800k baht in the bank for 60 days Get a letter from your bank confirming you balance the day before and update your bank book the same day. Make some copies of your passport pages and TM6 departure card. And book also.

Oh oh.

All but a working balance of my money is in Krungsri Bangkok, not in a Sisaket branch. It has to be that way to get higher rates of interest as a Krungsri Exclusive customer. Does the bank letter have to be dated one day previous to the immigration office visit (rather than 2 days say). Does a letter with the previous days date faxed or scanned into an e-mail attachment by the bank work? Is a high interest savings account (not a time deposit) ok for financial evidence purposes? I saw one poster suggesting one should make a withdrawal within a day of the letter; is this necessary?

I do have the back-up of getting another non-O from Savanaket I suppose. If Savanaket were to introduce financial requirements (following the Hull model) would these likely require proving financial resources outside Thailand, inside or both?

I suggest you make a trip to immigration in Sisaket and ask them what they require. It varies so much from office to office for bank letter and accounts they will accept. You could also ask them if they still want a medical certificate.

You don't need to make a withdrawal to get an update if bank can do the update. Some have deposited as little as 100 baht to get an update.

Savannakhet is still no financial proof needed. But if they did they would want to see a Thai bank book.

Also remember if you need more time you can get a 60 day extension to visit your wife.

In case anyone subsequently needs the info, I went to Sisaket immigration last week and showed them my Thai deposit account passbook (a high interest account with a Bangkok branch of Krungsri that is not a time-restricted deposit and one that does permit rationed withdrawals) which had more than sufficient funds in it to get a marriage or retirement extension.

The immigration officer (a senior one - his assistant was struggling to comprehend that I wanted info only about the banking confirmation for an extension and was on a pre-programmed explanation about extensions) confirmed:

  • A deposit account is fine
  • I did not have to make a transaction to show very current activity (but the account I showed him had a withdrawal within the last month in it so I cannot be certain if a very static account would also be ok). I think I would be inclined to make a withdrawal within 7 days before application (why 7 days - see below) in any event just to be sure.
  • I should get the passbook updated, so it is current when I apply for the extension. That's no problem even though my account is with Krungsri Bangkok - I am pretty sure that local Krungsri branches will update out of province passbooks
  • I should get a bank letter in addition to the passbook. Makes sense as an updated passbook usually only shows the last transaction, doesn't it? He thought that Krungsri Sisaket would issue a bank letter on a Bangkok branch account. I expressed concern that this may not be the case and he said it would be ok to have a bank letter as sent from Bangkok, so long as it was dated within 7 days of the application

I forgot to ask about the medical certificate. Dam_n. Anyone else have experience on that aspect (Sisaket only - I think Ubonjoe is implying its a movable feast from province to province). He ran through the requirements for a marriage visa (I will probably go for retirement, its less hassle marginally) and I do not recall him mentioning a medical certificate.

Nice to see that Pattaya Immigration continues to give same-day conversions and extensions. Presumably the OP used an income statement, or if using a bank account, the 800k had been in account for two months.........
