N. Korean leader's aunt defected to US in 1998: report

Seoul (AFP) — North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un's aunt fled to the United States while looking after her nephew during his time at a Swiss boarding school in the 1990s, a report said Tuesday.

Ko Yong-Suk, who effectively vanished in 1998, had in fact been granted US political asylum, South Korea's JoongAng Daily said, citing a former senior intelligence official and a South Korean diplomat based in Berne at the time.

The newspaper said Ko, who would now be 56, and her husband had cosmetic surgery to conceal their identities and remain under the protection of the US authorities.

Kim Jong-Un attended an international school in Berne from 1996-2001 and Ko had been sent to care for him during his studies there.

Ko and her husband reportedly made their initial bid for asylum through the US embassy.

"The United States spirited away the couple without even informing us," the unidentified intelligence official said.

They were first taken to a US military base in Frankfurt and then flown to the United States.

Ko is the younger sister of Kim's mother Ko Yong-hui who died from breast cancer in 2004 aged 51.

Few immediate members of the ruling Kim dynasty live overseas.

The most notable exception is Kim's elder half-brother Kim Jong-Nam, who was once considered heir apparent, but who fell out of favour with his father Kim Jong-Il following a botched attempt in 2001 to secretly enter Japan and visit Disneyland.

His family has since lived in virtual exile, in Macau, Singapore and China.

Kim Jong-Nam's son Kim Han-Sol is currently studying at university in Paris.

As long as we're on the subject of the world's most dysfunctional family, Kim Jong Un's older brother is a chronic gambler in Macao and Jong Un's other brother, presented below, was deemed by daddy Kim Jong Il as ”too effeminate“ to rule。

The piece at the link below is, honestly, too rich to pass on。It's an entertaining read that makes Married With Children seem staid。

My vote for Dear Leader goes 100% to Jong Chol, who is a hands-on leader no question smile.png

A toast to Jong Chol - bottoms up!biggrin.png

Kim Jong Il's Three Sons: A Douche, A Gay, A "Brilliant Comrade"

Kim Jong Chol - The Gay

In school, he wrote a poem: ”My Ideal World。“

It begins,

"If I had my ideal world I would not allow weapons and atom bombs anymore. I would destroy all terrorists with the Hollywood star Jean-Claude Van Damme. I would make people stop taking drugs…" He wrote a somewhat chilling short story called "My Father Was a Ghost," in which his father haunts him by pretending to be a spirit.

By some accounts, his father regarded him as too soft to take power.

Assuming Chol is gay based on a childhood poem seems both idiotic and homophobic. About "effeminacy", the truth is the majority of men in the world who are judged effeminate are heterosexual. Perhaps even Michelle Bachmann's husband but I wouldn't bet the house on that. Cheers.

Another point, if you were an evil dictator's son, would you want to be the next in line, if there was any way out? I assume the "rejects" still have no money worries.

Yes,well taken。

However, while I was in the CCP-PRC, shortly before Kim the father died, my PRChinese friends had said Jong Un would succeed the elder Kim.

I was advised overwhelmingly that Jong the Fat was too Westernized and that Jong Chol was gay. That was the unofficial word throughout the CCP-PRC, which in fact was based on the underground official word from the Boyz in Beijing among other sources, experts, academics familiar with N Korea - at least as familiar as one can be outside the place.

Some high ranking defectors say the identical things about the sons/brothers.

It may be a surprise to some that I give zero credibility to what the Boyz in Beijing say smile.png , but the reports have proved to be accurate as far as I can tell right up to the present. Jong The Fat over indulges in the casinos of Macau and, well, e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g I've heard consistently about Jong Chol appears to be as accurate as the reports of Jong Fat and of General Comrade Jong Un.

All of this doesn't necessarily make it so, but I'm more than persuaded.

Jong Chol would have made a good leader. He would have added some color to those drab communist-style cement buildings. North Korea needs a little more color.

I hope some one will kick behind this fat and cheater idiot. usa?

I, on the other hand, hope someone with an actual border with N Korea, (or a nearby island) will step up and take the reins this time around.

As is the case with auntie, Beijing has given up on Pyongyang.

The fact is Beijing hasn't had any significant influence or control over Pyongyang for a long time.

The new leader in Beijing, Xi Jinping, is a Maoist and is taking the CCP-PRC back in time politically. CCP liberal reformers privately refer to the CCP-PRC under Xi by the new name of "West Korea".

The PRChina is becoming more like Pyongyang under Xi Jinping.

And its too bad auntie didn't kidnap the future General Comrade Jong Un to take him with her, to include the makeover of appearance.

Add some color and some flair, I'd expect. smile.png
