I just watched a report on it here in the U.S. on the Weather Channel about 15 minutes ago. They said it's going to slam the Philippines with close to 200 MPH winds, then head towards Vietnam. After that they said it's going to curve north. It looked like the path would probably clip upper Isaan. Udon Thani etc. Ubon Ratchatani probably would not see much from it. Of course those things can be unpredictable.

Warning
"Tropical Depression in South China Sea"
No. 13 Time Issued : November 08, 2013 At 4.00 a.m. on 8 November, the active low pressure covers the upper Gulf and the upper South Thailand. Abundant rain, as well as isolated heavy rain, is likely in the lower Central and the South, especially in provinces of Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Surat Thani. The strong wind wave is expected 2-3 meters high in the upper Gulf. People in the areas should beware of severe weather. Tomorrow (9 November), the active low will move to the upper Andaman Sea.

Typhoon “HAIYAN” with maximum sustained wind about 240 km/hr is moving across the Philippines and the South China Sea. It is forecast to move near the coast of Central Vietnam during 10-11 November. It will then weaken rapidly due to the impact of the cool and dry air mass from China to bring rainfalls over eastern part of the Northeast of Thailand.

The advisory will be effect on 8 November 2013 at 4.00 a.m.

Thank you kindly. Off to cut the rice then.

Thats the point!

At this time of year rain ist not much appreciated.

Here the family has scheduled rice cutting for Nov 18/19.

I have no idea where they derive their schedule from.

Some reports say it will be here on Monday.

This one says we can expect it on Monday.

It's been tagged : " Possibly the biggest typhoon in world history"

I'm still recovering from the flood of two weeks ago!

Anyhow, I guess this for SEA forum?

When was last time a Typhoon went so far inland and still called a Typhoon?

Genuine question, not joking.

Yep, they usually get downgraded to a tropical storm by the time they get here.

Are there not warnings of severe rain due on the 12th for a couple of days? The g/f says the Channel 3 news is carrying such reports.

Yes, it's not looking good for these poor people. If life wasn't hard enough.

Among the worst hit areas were the eastern island of Leyte and the coastal city of Tacloban, which saw buildings flattened in a storm surge.

First reports said 100 bodies had been found there but the Red Cross later estimated a figure of more than 1,000.

It is still out at sea.

We are discussing it now.

Now it is a Typhoon now

O.K.?.

It's a Category 1 now, heading straight into Ha Long Bay. Then it weakens to a Tropical Storm.

Also now headed north over Hainan into mainland China. Phew (sorry China, but it sounds like its much weakened already anyway!)
