BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Yingkuck Shinawatra is now losing her popularity to opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva over her government’s proposing of the much-criticized amnesty bill to the Parliament, according to the latest poll revealed by Bangkok University’s Bangkok Poll.

Bangkok Poll said the finding was based on its random phone interviews from among 1,122 people throughout the country on November 7-8. They were asked to comment on the amnesty bill which was passed by the House of Representatives and forwarded to the Senate for final approval.

It said that the popularity of Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva rose to 34.8% from the previous 31.7% in June, while Prime Minister Yingluck’s dropping sharply from 40.4% to 26.7%.

For popularity rating for the parties, the poll also showed that the ruling Pheu Thai party’s popularity also plunged from 41.0% to 28.2% while the opposition Democrat rising from 31.7% to 37.2%.

Asked on whether the government should dissolve the lower House of Representatives to ease the current tension, 41.1% agreed, while 38.7% disagreed and 20.2% made no comment.

When asked whether they have trust in the government or not over its pledge not to revive the amnesty bill throughout its remaining term in service, 46.2% said they did not trust the government, 27% trusted, and 26.8% were hesitated.

This is just a temporary blip. If PTP decide to dissolve the House and hold new elections, PTP will win again, but maybe with a much smaller majority.

Which will have the same effect.

if that were the case, then they (PTP) would call a snap election, I don't see Thaksin testing the electorate any time soon.

Also an ICJ verdict in favour of Cambodia later today would not help!

all a question of money...things that can't be fixed with 500 Baht can be fixed with 1000 Baht (but that will be expensive)

Until Mr T starts handing out vote funds again that is .....

I agree! All these Thai people protesting about the amnesty bill and who should I vote for and so on. All the complaining will stop at election time when the winner will be who hands out the most money to the voters to buy their vote. I don't feel sorry for the Thai people in this respect. They were actually bought by the winning party so deal with it! Thai politics is never about the issues but always about money. How can Yingluck call this a democracy. Socialism working at its best,

If PTP really calls for a dissolution of the house and calls for new election...I believe there will not be one party majority this time. The swing vote will lie with the smaller parties in Bhumjaithai, Chart Pattana, etc. Let's see who (PTP or Democrates) is going to offer more cabinet seats to get the swing votes...

Then again, I just do not see PTP dissolve the House and call for snap election. They are very aware of this scenario so sound the horn of retreat for now and live to fight another day. As for the Democrats, let see what and how they can squeeze PTP into the microwave and crank up the pressure...

At the end of it, it's all a never-ending chess game. Winner - crooked politicians. Losers - general Thai population

Taken a couple of years but now Abihsit does not seem such a bad bloke after all. Too many broken promises, too many prices rising, reality in the pocket and finally the new alcohol tax, thats what really nailed them, look at the cost my beer!

The witch is about to be tested in the fire.

In the old days, the people would burn her in a public square to prove that she is one.

I only know this test. Put the witch with a stone into the lake.

If she does not sink she is with the devil and must die.

If she sinks and drown she wasn't a witch.

I guess the test with the fire is similar?

Time to wheel out another Shinawat to take over the hot seat then.

Apparently Waoyappa is straining at the leash......

.

laugh.png Well she does look like a bulldog chewing a wasp.

I don't think there is any surprise that Yinglucks popularity is sliding, she has certainly had a pretty awful week in terms of her political skills, or lack of them. This has all been brewing for sometime, and the level of her incompetence was always going to come out at some point. Still not sure if the Dems can really capitalize on this, as they also have their own baggage as well.

Democrats aren't going to hand out 500 baht notes to people in Issan, because they know that the PTP will just up the ante. What they can and should do is focus on real issues and drive them home which works in Bkk, but at the end of the day the people of Issan want to know that they have something to eat, a roof over their heads and a future. This is where the PTP has been the better liar.

Interesting poll result, but I doubt you would see those numbers in an actual election. But it does seem PTP would take a hit compared to the last election.

I am quite sure the PTP will receive a massive protest vote but I think those votes will go to the coalition parties rather than the Dems.
