BANGKOK: -- Democrat advisory chairman Chuan Leekpai took to the stage at Ratchadamnoen protest site Sunday night accusing the government of trying to bring home exiled former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra a free man by using reconciliation and forgiveness as an excuse.

The former Democrat party leader said that every Thai citizen, including Thaksin, has the right to return home and any government cannot stop it. “Returning home is not the problem, but the government itself is the problem,” said Mr Chuan, adding that every government alike has problems and it is its duty to deal with the problems, but the Yingluck government created problems and crises.

Mr Chuan denied the suggestion by the government that most of the people who joined the protest against the blanket amnesty bill because they didn’t want to be seen as not trendy. They joined the protest out of their conscience to protect the rule of law and good governance, he said.

The former Democrat leader added he wasn’t sure that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra understood anything when she addressed the public last week about the government’s decision to withdraw all the amnesty bills from the parliament.

Ms Yingluck was not ready to become the prime minister, said Mr Chuan.

Of course she wasn't ready, the spin at the time of the election was that she would had her experienced brother giving her "advice" on how to do things right, you know, like the Rice Scheme and this Impunity Bill.

Didn't work out so well, did it?

"Ms Yingluck was not ready to become the prime minister, said Mr Chuan."

She was not ready, she is not ready and she never going to be ready.

By the way, in my opinion she have never been PM just a puppet following orders from a criminal fugitive in Dubai

Which then begs the question, who is ever apparently ready in this country?

Abhisit on paper appeared to be academically ready, but in reality was an absolutely inept and naive politician. He might have gone to school and university with Cameron, Boris and Osborne but even he isn't smart enough to have workeed out that the Democrats are absolute dead ducks in the Thai systems. Is Chuan suggesting that within the Dems there is a depth of political capability that goes well beyond that of PTP? Suthep, Kasit? Ohhh, puleeze. Korn is a smart bloke who appears to be one that should not be trifled with in political discussion. Where are the rest?

Until the system realises that politics needs a vast range of skills, other than just a nice degree and a big bank balance, it goes nowhere. It would be nice if a decent percentage of the MP's sitting in the lower house were actually acting on some kind of heartfelf principle instead of them all just looking to feather their bank balance.

Yingluck is just one of the lower end of a very bad bunch, with Abhisit sitting somewhere just above average. None of them are skilled principled politicians. NONE. Abhisit couldn't negotiate his way to his own coalition, not in 1000 years. He needed the army to give him just a tiny boost up in the right direction.

"wasn't ready", should be substituted with "will never be ready, or is a fit and proper person to undertake such a role".

Undertake such a role? 555 yeah because she has a great deal to live up to looking at the last 20 years.

If that moron George W Bush can 'run' the USA (into the ground) then if anything she is over qualified for Thailand.

Yingluck overqualified???????

Sorry Khun angsta, you leave me no choice, I have to post my friend here:

attachicon.gifLaughter.gif

compared to Mr. G. W Bush she is "overqualified" he said...

well, a few millions, if not billions would be up to the job then... a quite true, though sad joke... Still I couldn't help chuckling when I read the comment ;)

Is anyone in Thailand ever better? What difference would it make? They are all so full of crap-themselves,

the others at least didn't try to whitewash their criminal brother and defacto leader.

Wrong - Chuan helped his brother when he stole over 200 million Baht from Thai Farmers Bank (now Kasikorn). He often said his brother was not guilty but any way his brother left for Taiwan and stayed their until the statute of limitation expired. Same what Thaksin does really.

Guys some times you are all full of crap.

You don't know politics of Thailand but think you know everything. In fact you know nothing. cheesy.gif

Quote:

In 1987, when Chuan was Parliament Speaker, his younger brother Raluek Leekpai (ระลึก หลีกภัย) was charged with embezzling 231.8 million THB (approx. 9 million USD in 1987) from Thai Farmers Bank.[4] Raluek had been an executive at TFB. Responding to accusations in Parliament, Chuan publicly defended the innocence of his brother. Raluek fled the country, and only returned to Thailand in 2004 after the statute of limitations expired on his crime and he couldn't be prosecuted. He had been on the run as a fugitive in Taiwan. Raluek has said he might enter politics in order to restore his reputation, although he said he wanted to live a quiet life in his Trang hometown.[

To be fair, I don't think Abhisit ever got a chance to prove himself as an administrator one way or another.

He was pushed to the front by political godfathers who hovered over his shoulder and reached out to move the pieces on the chess board from behind him constantly.

The second Yingluck was elected as PM, I knew the top of her agenda was bringing her evil brother Thaksin back to Thailand a free person to further fool the masses out of their hard earned baht. Both Yingluck and Thaksin care nothing about beloved Thailand or the people.

Geo. W. Bush was the first twice elected Governor of one of the largest and most successful of the 50 states. You should have used Mr. Obama whose only qualifications were: a) he was not Geo. Bush B) partial term State Senator c) partial term US Senator d) community organizer with NO executive experience.. Even Mr. Obama was infinitely more qualified at the beginning of his first term than out dear current PM.
