The silent stretch along Khlong Saen Saep

For those who have travelled via canal boats along KSS, I have always wondered why the boats would deliberately slow down along the stretch between Pratunam Pier and Hua Chang Pier (MBK).

Any VIP residence located along the banks ?

There is also a "shield" (large, solid fence) on the east side of the BTS tracks in that small section to prevent riders from gazing down/in.

Now that someone has posted a serious (and useful) answer, I think it's to avoid waking the bridge trolls. Or maybe the ghosts?

If you go all the way out to Bangkapi, and further, you´ll notice that they slow down at Buddhist temples and Muslim mosques too...

The KSS ride is crazy, I like it, keeps you uptodate with your acrobatic skills getting on and off!

My experience so far with frequent "voyages" to Bangkapi have been quite different. They don't normally slow down at temples or mosques. I believe it has more to do with most "floating pontoons" to ferry passengers across the KSS in the absence of canal bridges are located near temples and mosques.
