State enterprise workers can take leave to join protests

mob-186-wpcf_728x413.jpg

State Enterprises Workers’ Relations Confederation (SERC) agreed by a majority vote on Wednesday to allow their workers to take two-day leave beginning tomorrow at their own will so they can join the ongoing anti-government protests.

Mr Komsant Thongsiri, secretary-general of SERC, said the majority of the confederation’s 45 state enterprises had reaffirmed their cooperation with the protesters in their struggle for national reform.

He said member state enterprises would ask workers in each respective enterprise to take a two-day sick leave or business leave which they are entitled to so that they can join the protests.

However, he maintained that it would depend on the individual workers to decide whether they would like to join the protests or not.

Mr Komsant dismissed the suggestion that SERC might resort to power and water supply cuts to put more pressure on the government, saying that this action is illegal and can be applied only with individuals or organizations which have failed to pay power or water fees within the specified period.

RT@tulsathit: Censure debate is wrapping up, with Yingluck making final self-defence.

RT@tulsathitNov: Yingluck in one tweet: Thanks for all criticism and exercise of checks and blances. Allegations are untrue.

RT@tulsathitNov: Note: Debate is wrapping with inadequate govt response to charges of massive graft in rice schemes. PT MPs were too distracted by TS issue.

BANGKOK: -- Twenty-five out of a total of 76 provincial halls across the country have been under siege by anti-government protesters as of Wednesday, said Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan.

But out of the 25 besieged provincial halls, only the one in Surat Thani was seized by the protesters who managed to get into the building, he added.

He disclosed that in 11 cases, the number of protesters are less than 200. These include the provincial halls in Khon Kaen, Phitsanuloke, Phrae, Uttradit, Uthai Thani, Saraburi, Ang Thong, Kanchanaburi, Prachuab Khiri Khan and Surin.

In 10 provinces, the number of protesters ranges from 200 to 1,000. These include Krabi, Chumphorn, Narathiwat, Pattani, Phang-nga, Phatthalung, Phuket, Yala, Ranong and Satun.

Only in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani, Songkhla and Trang that the number of protesters exceed 1,000.

Charupong said the siege of provincial halls by the protesters was intended to give an impression that the government is incapable of governing or the country has turned a failed state.

However, he insisted that the government would not resort to violence to disperse the protesters.

Court to hear police request to arrest protest leaders

205979-imagejpeg-311094-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court will hold a pre-trial hearing on the coming Monday to consider the police request for the arrest of four protest leaders of the so-called Students-People Network for National Reform.

Phya Thai police enquiry officer Pol Lt-Col Theppitak Saenkla have asked the court to issue warrants for the arrest of Nitithorn Lamlua, Uthai Yodmanee, Ratchatachayut Sriyothinsak and Phichit Chaimongkol charged by police with illegal assembly and causing damages to state properties during the protesters’ raid of the Foreign Ministry on November 25.

Nitithorn’s lawyer, Ms Puangtip Boonsanong on Wednesday lodged a petition with the Criminal Court asking for a pre-trial hearing of a case in which a group of protest leaders, including Nitithorn, are facing arrest for their illegal occupation of the Foreign Ministry.

Ms Puangtip said that the protesters only entered the compound of the Foreign Ministry and did not get into the building to interrupt the officials. The temporary siege, she added, was intended to show to the world community that the government has lost its legitimacy to govern.

Suthep rejects dialogue with Yingluck

IMGP8510-wpcf_728x413.jpg

Anti-Thaksim regime protest leader Suthep Thuagsuban today rejected Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s dialogue offer to resolve the current political turmoil and end the widespread protests.

He said dialogue would not help anything as now the protest of the huge mass of people was for the uprooting of Thaksin regime and not the government.

He said he would also reject dissolution of parliament and hold election because it would only allow same bad politicians to return to power.

He said his goal was to eliminate the seeds of the Thaksin regime from the country forever and form a people’s council to rule the country.

He also refused to accept any political post or even the prime minister post if his movement today was achieved with the regime being thrown out. However he said he would be ready to die in the “battle field” if he was defeated in this significant movement.

Earlier Prime Minister Yingluck called on protesters to turn to a dialogue to resolve the problem rather than besieging government offices as it would only put the people in trouble.

She also said what the protesters were doing would only be a pain to the nation because there is no winner or loser in this game but the country that will suffer.
