Train derails near Lamphun station

The next mobile cabinet should be held on the Bangkok-Chiang Mai line, preferably with Suthep as it's special guest. thumbsup.gif

I see the idea now, Suthep stoking the fires and Yingluck blocking the track. He'd enjoy that.

Train carrying SRT chief derails in Lamphun
By English News

LAMPHUN, Dec 2 - A Chiang Mai-bound express train on which the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) governor was travelling derailed just two hours after departing from Lamphun station early today.

The last car carrying Mr Prapas Chongsa-nguan on a duty trip derailed at 9.30am after the train left Lampang station at 6.30am. The SRT chief and his team of managers and and other passengers were not hurt in the incident as the train moved slowly towards Lumphun station.

It was the first incident just one day after the SRT reopened its northern rail route between Uttaradit and Chiang Mai yesterday. The section of the railway had been closed for repairs for 75 days following frequent rail accidents.

The SRT governor explained that the incident was caused by human error as Lumphun station chief hastily ordered his staff to switch the rail track while the last compartment moved past the area and eventually derailed.

SRT workers are now working to retrieve the derailed car.

Mr Prapas reportedly ordered the transfer of Lamphun station chief Silarat Divajee to Sila Art station as a result of the mishap. (MCOT online news)

That happen when have more manager than craftsman...cheesy.gif Funny pic...

If one opens the Thaipbs link in the #1 post in this thread, on the right hand side there are links to other derailments... a whole lot of them. What a mess. Train transport is supposed to be idiot proof.

SRT is now a complete disaster.

From rolling stock to laughing stock

The wheels are falling off Thailand

Think it is time for ''farang'' to take control of the tech and purse strings.

maybe they can mount a

camera + gps on it to see what is causing this

and thailand wants high speed

loooooooooooooooool

ironical witth top managementt on board , now they feel what it is, dough at low speed

If we were allowed to bet here we could start a book on whether the GOverner will resign or not.

State Railways of Thailand need some new kit! As a supporter I have sent them the latest Hornby Catalogue, Bachmans catalogue and suggest they try and run these first to get the hang of things.

Benny Hill could do a better job then the transportation Minister. How can this person keep his job. I cannot think of any country in the world would not have fired this person on his or her job performance. This stuff should be on Saturday night live comedy show

If he needs coaching I 'm sure there a few old buffers who could train them.

I guess as an added disincentive to Lanna tourism it will ensure all locals and long term C Mai residents will get a better share of the smoke without falang interlopers stealing lungfulls of Thai weather.

SRT a Hub for spokes?cheesy.gif

Hugely embarrassing for the SRT Gov given his previous pronouncement that he would resign if another derailment occurred.

As this MCOT video and report indicates, the derailment occurred on a passing loop that was not part of the rehabilitated line while allowing Rapid train #102 from CM to use the main line. Reportedly, the cause was due to a hasty and badly timed switch by the operator of the turnout. That may or may not be true but the 3 carriages that have derailed have obviously derailed just past the turnout so it would indicate a potential casual connection.

It is still a huge embarrassment but a derailment at full speed on the rehabilitated section of track would have been far worse PR and potential injury wise.

The dysfunctional SRT has been starved of funds for 5 decades and allowed to run down to the point where it barely functions hence the reason why so many derailments have occurred - the Nam Tok line used to have a train derail on average every 2 weeks!

Politically they haven't been allowed to increase 3rd class fares for over 10 years & diesel was less than half the price it is now. Hence, the reason why since 2010 money is belatedly being provided for the whole network to be upgraded and track duplicated. This pregram is separate from any HSR lines that will be built.

An obvious metaphor for Thailand in the current climate.

This doesn't make sense:

LAMPHUN, Dec 2 - A Chiang Mai-bound express train on which the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) governor was travelling derailed just two hours after departing from Lamphun station early today.

Two hours out of Lamphun it would already be in Chiang Mai. So the story has some inaccuracies.

(Not doubting that it derailed of course, but just mentioning that the story can't be fully accurate)

Surely, this story is not true, - it's just to improve the morale of the people during these difficult times!!! 'Give 'em a laugh', she said!!!

Ya' just can't make this stuff up.

Yup! I do love livin' in Toontown clap2.gif

Only about 10kms before CM. Who wants to bet it was also running late before the derailment?

At 2 hours out of Lamphun and "Only about 10kms before CM." cheesy.gif That's a good GREAT bet.

Seems he has found someone to blame so he wont have to resign after all.

What a shame.
