Hi,

My friend is leaving tomorrow and she has a few items with receipts for tax refund. She gets very easily confused in airports

My question is: where is the tax refund office in suvarnabum? does anybody have any specific location description?

and also, does one have to come way in advance for the process?

thanks for any information.

Concourse D, Gate D1-D4 and D5-D8 at the 4th Fl

Note these rules, having only reciepts will not get you a tax refund:

1. VAT refund only applies to goods taken out of Thailand within 60 days from the date of purchase.
2. The goods must be purchased from stores displaying the "VAT REFUND FOR TOURISTS" sign.

3. On any day, the value of goods purchased at each participating store shall not be less than 2,000 baht, including VAT. The total amount claimed for refund must not be less than 5,000 baht, including VAT.
4. On the purchasing day, present your passport and ask the sales assistant at the store to complete the VAT Refund Application for Tourist form (P.P. 10) and attach the original tax invoices to the form. Each application form (P.P. 10) must show a value of 2,000 baht or more.

thank you for the info.

my friend is relaxed now.

Sorry I did not see it above (and unless it has changed) but you also need to get the paperwork stamped/approved before you go through immigration - if you do not do this you will not get any refund. I unfortunately made this mistake the first time I tried sad.png

i went to go home for a holiday and i asked where to get the tax refund and the staff told me inside after you go past customs this was the wrong as it was where you get your refund you had to show your receipt outside before going through to collect your tax hence i did not get my refund of 100 dollars NZ

Indeed this is where a lot of people fail. You absolutely need the stamp before you actually check in. They never have asked me to actually show any of the goods I bought but if you rock up without a suitcase, chances are they will not stamp your paperwork.

If the items are in the bags to be checked in, ie not in the hand-carried bag, go the the tax refund office before you check in. Depending on how many passengers are queuing there, it may take from 5 to 30 minutes.

Then, as said after passing through passport control and security, go the the counter where you get the refund paid to you. Payment is in cash in Thai currency.

Sums up the reasons to my approach in many countries. Unless you're looking at a considerable return. it's not worth the wasted time.

I would rather chill and have a beer and/or something to eat.

Each to their own I suppose.

The funny thing thinking about this is that Thai VAT is 7% but in shops that don't do this VAT gimmick ( and it is nothing but a gimmick ) you can more often than not get the exact same items for more than 7% less so shop in the less expensive places, save your money and save the hassle....It's just the same as supposed 'discounts' where they raise the price before they discount it...

FYI...

Who can claim VAT refunds?

- A non Thai visitor who has been in Thailand less than 180 days in a calendar year.
- A non Thai visitor who is not a crew member of an airline.
- A non Thai visitor who departs Thailand by air from an International airport.
How do you claim a VAT refund?
- A VAT refund will only apply if the goods purchased are taken out of Thailand within 60 days of purchase.
-The goods must be purchased from participating shops that display a "VAT Refund For Tourists" sign.
- On any one day, the goods purchased from an individual participating shop must not be less than 2,000 Baht including VAT, and the total amount claiming for refund must not be less than 5,000 Baht, including VAT.
- When you purchase the goods, ask the sales assistant to complete a VAT refund form, known as the P.P.10, and attach the original tax invoices to that form. Each P.P.10 must show a value of 2,000 Baht or more.
- You will need to know the method or refund you would prefer, and input that onto the P.P.10 form.
- You will need to show your passport to the sales assistant when you purchase the goods, to allow her to fill in the above mentioned form.
- When you are requesting the refund, the goods must be inspected by customs officers prior to check in. Show these customs officers the P.P.10 and tax invoices.
How will the refund be paid?
- If the refund does not exceed 10,000 Baht then you can have the refund made by cash (Thai Baht), draft, or a credit to your credit card.
- If the refund total does exceed 10,000 Baht then, refunds will be made by either draft or a credit to your credit card.
Are there any fees?
- If you request a cash refund a fee of 100 Baht will apply.
- For a draft refund a 100 Baht fee plus, the draft issuing fee at the rate charged by banks and postage fees.
- For credit card refunds, a 100 Baht fee plus money transfer fee at the rates charged by banks.

Yes I purchased a 120,000 baht watch at central and went to claim the VAT only to be told I had to have the goods inspected then the claim form stamped, when I asked where do I do that she replied outside before you go through customs, lucky I was flying business as the girl escorted me back though customs with a special pass, man a long walk as the inspection is located as you enter the airport. Anyway after having the goods inspected paper work stamped & back through customs to get my refund there was then a long line a the refund counter. So I am standing in line & some Indian guy behind me asks can he jump in front of me as he is running late for his flight, my reply was a blunt no, he then said but bla bla bla so I head butted him. After that he did not ask again, that cold beer in the business lounge tasted good by the time I got back there. Anyway allow an extra 30 min if you are going to claim VAT.
