Police station turned into PDRC’s branch office

BANGKOK: -- Anti-government protesters have turned an abandoned police station in Bang Saphan district of Prachuab Khiri Khan into a branch office of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee.

The Ban Thammarat police station in Tambon Thong Monkol has been abandoned by police since it was seized by protesting rubber tappers and planters in early November.

Mr Santhad Detkerd, a coordinator of rubber and oil palm farmers of 16 southern provinces, said Monday that the police station would be used as a branch office of the PDRC in Prachuab Khiri Khan.

He claimed that some 5,000 people had registered as members of PDRC representing Prachuab Khiri Khan. He said that a meeting would be held on December 22 to elect representatives who will represent the members.

The concrete barrier in front of the police station has been painted by the protesters to proclaim their occupation of the premise. A banner was also hung in front of the station proclaiming that Prachuab Khiri Khan is the province most strewn with tyre-puncturing spikes.

The cynical message was meant to condemn perpetrators who seeded the Petkasem highway in the province with spikes to block southern people from joining the protests in Bangkok in November.

That would be called "breaking and entering" in any other country.

According to the report, it states the police station was abandoned by the cops after it was seized by southern protesters in November. Are the cops scared to return and reclaim their premises?

I doubt that any "breaking and entering" was involved, perhaps the only breaking was a few seals on bottles of whisky found in the lunchroom?

Was abandoned with the police truck at far left?

Just came by to collect some remaining stuff from the desk where he used to sit. Oh and to collect rent, perhaps :-)

Probably more work than was ever done in the police station before.....

Well was it a Police Station or an abandoned building? Headline could have read PDRC take over Rubber Planters

protest Headquarters. etc... etc...

Is this perchance one of the half finished police stations Suthep had built around 2010?

Funny you mention. The DSI started an investigation into this and when the trails were leading to PT friendly people, it was abandoned. Do some research before creating a story.

"Tarit followed up by creating a fact-finding committee, which then concluded the case and passed the report over to the NACC." So not abandoned, then. Will be interesting to see what becomes of it.

In other countries it would be already full with the corrupt politician so there would be no reason to break in.

yes these people should be at the police station,

i mean these yellow thugs should be behind the bar at the police station

As long as they do not have rooted out your beloved Thaksinism, I hope they will take over every police station in the country (they are most red-shirts anyway)
