Highlighting the Original Poster

The longer a post runs the less the original subject is discussed plus comments by the OP appear like from any other commentator. Highlighting the OP would help to moderate guide his own post more.

A dream would be if the Topic Title automatically scrolls down to the next reply. This way comments would less derail from the Topic. ( And the OP would phrase the Topic with more substance.

What I could never understand is why you can't quote the original post, yet can quote every post after

It's quite simple really, if you want to quote the OP's first post just copy and paste it, or just quite simply just type "@ the OP"....Normally an OP is interested in the thread/topic he/she has started so reads the thread with interest...And replies to certain replys...

Though you do get an exception with hit and run OP's or trolls who don't return to threads/topics they started...This is normally a good indication of the mentioned..

There is an "off subject" button. It is labelled "Report"

- Doesn't make sense, just because someone is off the subject to blow the whistle on him.

It´is not about censoring , it is about moderating.

- I believe if the system would highlight the OP then he has also the responsibility of moderating his/her own subject.

- Some threads run forever without adding much and the OP will lose interest.

As the OP I would welcome the option to close a subject. That would be active moderation.

( May be contrary to TV advertising interests, depending on which criteria determine the appeal to advertisers.)

This was implemented some time ago.

Very necessary at the time, people continually quoted the whole opening post and replied with a single word, then others would quote the quoted reply with a single phrase, it was numb nuts in the extreme.

Repeated requests were made not to do it, just quote the part you wanted to reply to, but alas, you cannot teach old dogs something simple, so enforcement was enabled, and so people just resort to pasting the whole opening post and replying with a single phrase and others will quote the response with a single word.

Oh, it is quite possible to quote the OP, 555

I do also think that highlighting the OP is a good idea.

Another idea to explore is to allow people to open thread where the OP has moderation powers over posts within the thread. That would allow to keep some threads clean and possibly save the mods some work.

You can cut-and-paste and quote the OP something like this:

... Highlighting the OP would help to moderate guide his own post more. ...

using the syntax revealed by the Code Mode switch at the top left of the reply box.

The complete quotes.of earlier posts is not useful.multiple quotes even less.

Actually, splitting a single post being replied to into multiple quotes is useful for a detailed reply.

There is currently a limit of 4 quotes per post. To be useful, it should be replaced by a limit on the depth of the quoting.
