Yingluck presents 'road map' for national reform, rivals unconvinced

BANGKOK: -- Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra announced a road map for national reform yesterday that would go hand in hand with the February 2 snap election, requiring all political parties to pledge to honour the reform process after the election.

Police find remains of boy, 7, with suspected killer's help

BANGKOK: -- The remains of a seven-year-old boy, thought to be the victim of a confessed rapist and murderer, were discovered in an isolated region of Loei's Wang Saphung yesterday. The boy is believed to have been lured to the spot by his killer, while he was attending a merit-making ceremony with his parents on November 10.

Network worried about more accidents in the New Year period

BANGKOK: -- The Accident Prevention Network has revealed that the number of road accidents during the New Year 2013 holidays had shown an increase, with about two-thirds of victims dying at the scene and 82 per cent of accidents involved motorcycles.

Twenty provinces in grip of chill weather

BANGKOK: -- With upper Thailand expected to experience chilly weather beyond the New Year holidays and the lower South more rains and strong winds and waves, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department yesterday reported that 155 districts of 20 provinces had been declared cold spell disaster zones.

One killed in fireworks explosion at factory

BANGKOK: -- An explosion took place yesterday morning at a fireworks factory in Angthong's Pho Thong district, resulting in one worker's death.

Following reports in the morning, police rushed to a Yang Sai sub-district factory in the middle of a rice field, which belonged to Kampanart Namphrom, and found one of the factory's two buildings completely destroyed. Rescue workers were gathering the remains of a worker, Paiboon Thongtrae, 48, reportedly scattered in the vicinity. Police are investigating the cause of the explosion.

Paiboon's wife Ratree told police that his job was to cook the fireworks mixtures. She and the two workers were filling the firework packages when they saw a sudden light followed by a loud explosion from the fateful building, Ratree said.

Toxic material may have caused gaurs' deaths

The death of eight gaurs in Prachuap Khiri Khan's Kui Buri National Park between December 2 and December 20 might have resulted from exposure to toxic material, the provincial livestock development office's veterinarian said yesterday.
