CAPO says attempts to interrupt registration process illegal

BANGKOK, 23 December 2013 (NNT) – The Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) says any attempt to interrupt the registration process of the general election is illegal.

According to CAPO Spokesman Pol. Maj. Gen. Piya Uthayo, groups of people have been attempting to disrupt the registration process for the upcoming general election. He warned that any action to interrupt the work of the Election Commission (EC) is illegal and violator could face up to 2 years in prison or a fine of 40,000 baht, or both.

Interrupting the registration process is also in violation of Section 309 of the criminal code, and violators will face a maximum of 5 years in prison or a fine of 10,000 baht, or both, said the CAPO spokesman.

The spokesperson has therefore called for the protesters to stop any and all illegal attempts, adding that all the actions are being recorded and wrongdoers will definitely face the music.

So dear Khun Piya, instead of holding a press-conference, what about getting on the phone to the local police-chief and tell him to do his job and arrest the perpetrators!

That is called to enforce the law instead of just talking about it!!coffee1.gif

Well, yes. Of course it's illegal. Why not do something about it?

Police not doing their job, to enforce the law, give them a hand full of zip ties and pepper spray and a warning, start arresting these criminals or find yourself out of a job and simply fire them.

Just think if the police enforced the law they could get 40,000 baht per person and not 200 baht at a road block.

Hey CAPO ... how about the rice scheme? any arrest in the near future ...

You are great at issuing press releases ... but nothing seems to get done ... any arrests from all this? nada

Are you and Chalerm related?

no the way is moving them to an inactive position, where they must live from their salary only. As they can't take any bribes on an inactive position it is considered as very harsh punishment.

Nobody in TV was thrilled with the amnesty fiasco, but I am amazed that we have two factions here that never discuss the corruption of their chosen side, which is hypocrisy.

If Suthep was named Sam in London and tried this obstruction of elections he would be locked up in short order. If Ying Luck was President Daisy in the US and she and her people tried the rice-pledging embezzlement fiasco and an amnesty bill -- they would be arrested. Amazing Thailand!

Police can't do anything without using force. If use force the mob have shown they are more then willing to use force back, and you have the downward spiral from a few weeks back.

And in case anyone think this would be allowed in a western democracy think again. In my own country there would be riot police and arrests. A minorities right to protest stretches so far.

Right now from how I read it anyone that wanted to register for the election have registered. So looks like election day is still coming. I really hope the thugs shutting down Bangkok will see just how large part they really are of "the people" that day.

Yes election day is coming.

Same same will happen.

Suthep and his sheep will block all polling stations, so no one gets in to vote.

Even if they does, I am sure Suthep et al will try to destroy or burn the ballet, so it cannot be counted.

'Wrongdoers will definitely face the music', says the police major general lieutenant colonel.

Can he possibly mean this isn't always the case when you do something wrong here or will they be sentenced to two hours of Thai karaoke with no chance of remission?

Ask Sondhi Limthongkul, he has a great deal of experience of this.

Listening to the BBC. Comment made that Suthep wants reform before the elections. I think that's a good idea. But I feel most thinking people would say it will take a couple of hundred years to reform Thailand.

The Thai people are no different than most people when faced with rampant and open corruption that they are not getting any of.

The answer is so obvious. A free press. Let the news guys print anything that is true. The corruption will stop shortly.

However I don't know of any political party in Thailand that wants a free press. Does anyone?

You can't maintain a totalitarian dictatorship and allow the citizens to discuss the dictators in a free and open manner.

Even my dog wants freedom. I say sit. And the dog looks for a treat in my hand. If she does not see any treats she looks at me with that, "you gotta be kidding look."

Where is Saint Chalerm the great legal crusader when he is needed?

One utterance from him along with a guest appearance by his sons and all would be sweetness and light.

Come on C.A.P.O. call in the big gums!!whistling.gif

Like Batman, it is not illegal to fight crime and stop the corrupt government by any means available.

Naturally it's illegal ( and a huge, huge blunder to boot on Suthep's part, that inadvertently sets everything back, in my view ). But then many things are illegal - including the massive corruption practices of this government. Not to mention a government that operates from edicts from abroad. That's one's pretty hard to top ! The question is, what are the offenses deemed appropriate for action, and which are the ones that they simply look away from ? Sadly, there is a common denominator at play with that decision-making process, and it has to do ( unsurprisingly ) with two factors - influence and money. With that reality sadly but firmly in place, I'm afraid we will simply need to resign ourselves to more press conferences, and very, very little else.

Well, yes. Of course it's illegal. Why not do something about it?

well everything else is done illegally here, laws are changed, systems change, decisions change, so whats the difference?

Nothing new here. ANYTHING WHICH PUT THIS GOVERNMENT IN THE SPOTLIGHT HAS TO BE ILLEGAL, and even if it is not we will say it is.

However PTP MP's involved in professional malfeasance and corruption is not illegal and anyway the can not be arrested even if it was while parliament is sitting. What an incredibly stupid privileged and for what purpose. Don't tell me because they are busy running the country. Ruining the country would be far more appropriate.

What does this post have to do with attempts to interrupt the registration process which is the topic of this thread. Is this some new kind of spam bot?

And will they be blocking polling stations and burning the ballot papers outside of Bangkok, particularly north of?

Suthep doesn't care about jail or fines. He thinks he is Highlander now, with all the special effects and everything. There can be only one!

Peaceful protest is good, i don't think any politician will be trying anything like the amnesty bill or changing the constitution to suit themselves any time soon. But blocking the registration of candidates, or the polling stations is wrong. This is an opportunity to see what people are thinking about their government and the integrity of the system. Stay in the streets if you like, respect the rights of others and do it in a peaceful, non confrontational way. It makes me smile when i see little old ladies, doctors, nurses and others letting the government know that they are mad as he-l and aren't going to sit still for it any more. Don't give the press an opportunity to show illegal activity.

In my opinion, If you cant abide by the laws of your land then how would you expect other nations to trust you. If you make a deal then change your mind after because you don't like it. I would not trust him/her personally.

Difficult, as all the ex cops on here know, one has to choose the moment and anyway, can't arrest them right now, "they say there's 6 million of them Guvnor............."

Another 6 weeks and they, these people who obstruct democratic due process, will be where they belong.

Off the streets, arrested, charged with a serious offence and working on their defence.

Yingluck had to pay the police a 3 million baht bonus ( distributed among those present at government house and the bridge ) the day they started firing tear gas and spraying the water cannons. Who knows how much money she would have to bribe them to do their real job !?cheesy.gif
