PDRC will not join reform council formed by govt.

BANGKOK, 25 December 2013 (NNT) – The anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) confirms it will not participate in the government’s reform council and insists that a reform must take place before an election.

PDRC leader Thaworn Sennium said on Wednesday that although the government accepted the private sector’s proposal on the establishment of a reform council, it still pushed for the election scheduled on 2 February 2014. The private sector actually wanted to see a reform before the election, so did the PDRC, Mr Thaworn said.

Meanwhile, Secretary-General to the Prime Minister Suranand Vejjajiva said the reform council was most appropriate for the current situation and it could start immediately. After the election, the new Cabinet would carry on the council establishment and new laws could be passed to support it, Mr Suranand said.

The PDRC could send its representatives to participate in the 499-member council, official said.
