Anyone know of a account available to foreigners that provides a real visa card - one that you can enter the details online to make payments?

I have a TMB current account, the "no limit" basic account, including an ATM card but it doesnt work online. I visited the branch in siam... and they told me they have nothing, its impossible to help me. No suggestions at all... they were useless.

So I went to Kasikorn and opened an account there. Fairly easy to open. But - they gave me a weird virtual visa card, which sometimes works but often doesn't. It also insists on being linked to my mobile phone.

Are there any better banks I could try? I work here, have a visa, etc, and a decent amount of money to deposit. Cant believe theres nowhere offering a regular visa card, in a major international city in the year 2014!

Bangkok Bank B1st account works online, I booked a room with Agoda last week using the card

Yeap, Bangkok Bank B1st debit card works fine online...can also linked to PayPal as a source of payment.

I opened an account in sisaket at KTB (KrungThaiBank), they gave me a atm/visa card. they set it up for internet purchasing. I was able to register it with Paypal with my thai address. I remember seeming something like verified by visa linked to the card.

I have a Kasikorn savings account with a Cyber enabled VISA debit card and works fine for internet transactions and ATM machines overseas. Have you followed the instructions to complete verification of the card? However, sometimes there are issues for international purchases as some overseas companies will not accept online transactions from Thai based banks due to fraud/security concerns. The link to your mobile phone is for additional security for OTP and to advise when a transaction has happened, again additional security

I have had a Kaesikorn merchant card that is actually a VISA number. Works fine, have ordered on internet including airline tickets as well as several purchases from Alibaba in China. Never a bit of problem. The phone link is a very, very desirable security feature and simple to use: as you enter you online purchase authorization a screen pops up for the verification asking you to enter the 4-digit code. At the same moment your phone rings and you have a SMS from the bank that shows the 4 digits. Just enter those on the computer screen in the space clearly shown for it, push the button and Roscoe is your godfather.

To be sure of your Bangkok Bank Be1st card always working online you need to go through the Verified by Visa process. See the bank or call 1113 to get the process started.

Don't seem to be able to get the sms if you have an overseas number and want to transfer funds etc online--I have tried--I gave the bank my number including codes etc but ?????--maybe they only send to Thai numbers-- Can anyone with Kasikorn " confirm or deny this "

Maybe what they really meant is they don't accept "debit" cards from any bank; some businesses do not accept debit cards for online/in person transactions (like some airlines and rental car companies) but will accept credit cards.

I was in the UK a couple of months ago and I couldn't use my UK sim to get a Kasikorn SMS and I hadn't set my Thai sim for roaming, I called Kasikorn and they confirmed they wouldn't send an SMS to a foreign number.

What they did was to enable the second password function for enough time to make my transactions, interestingly they wouldn't do the transactions over the phone either.

There are three, that I know of, that issue verified by visa online debit cards, Kasikorn, Bangkok and Krungthai. Occasionally I use my Krungthai shopping card for online purchases including AirAsia.

Yes, I second this.

I have used my BB CC to pay for rooms via Agoda and buy flight tickets with Middle East carriers too.

Only negative, it isn't really a credit card as I have to keep a Fixed deposit equivalent to the limit.

Don't get this, I have used B1st Visa many times with Air Asia, never had a problem. Is it Visa enabled?

Kasikorn Bank works perfect. Enable your debit card for credit card use, needs to be activated first, can activate it at every ATM.

Agoda: Use the debit card that was activated for credit card use. For name, just enter your Full name even it is not printed on your card.

FedEx online payments via phone: debit card will nto work, use the "virtual credit card"...

You'll need a real credit card to make online payments, the Visa debit card that comes with many accounts won't work for most online payments.

To apply you need proof of income and probably a workpermit and visa, maybe other documents can work if you are retired.

I have an account at Kasikorn with a Visa credit card. It is linked to you mobile for security, so you can confirm transactions using a code send to your mobile.

An alternative can be a paypal account that you link to a foreign account, I've not been able to direct link a paypal account to my Thai account yet, but I could link it to my Vias card.

Don't know why you need a Thai bank, but that is another issue. Any funds I need here are ATM withdrawals or wire transfers. Have you tried your home, or other foreign, country banks? I have opened and frequently use debit and credit cards online--and I get that nasty little B150 ATM fee returned, two transfers a month free, and all at the current FX rate.

HANDS DOWN....AS ALREADY POSTED....BANGKOK BANK B1ST CARD....ALWAYS WORKS!!

SCB IS <deleted>.

If there is something you need to understand Bkk b1st can be used for internet transactions SCB can't be used for internet transactions and had never been intended for that. If you get something from a bank why not ask if you don't know instead of says it's <deleted>.

Kasikorn bank: Physical ATM (Visa Electron) card can be enabled for online use via ATM. Virtual Visa Credit Card enabled via online banking. Both work in the many places I've needed to use them. Amazon, PayPal, Barnes & Noble and quite a few smaller European and American businesses. Linked to mobile is, IMO, good as it acts as a security device, verified by visa, against fraud. If you don't like it then you must like fraud. Works even when you're not in Thailand as long as you have your mobile number enabled for International roaming and you have it switched on, to get the OTP, when you make a purchase.

Kasikorn's system is great. No complaints at all.

I have three bangkok bank debit visa cards and two visa cards issued by bank of Ayuthaya . I use debit cards issued by bank of Ayuthaya to book tickets on airasia all the time and I can use all of them in other countries with no,problems at all....

Ask your bank for international visa card. Of course it will be a debit card as they usually don't give credit card to foreigners. Then ask them to activate your visa card so that you can use it for online shopping etc.

Posted

Ask them for a secured credit card, meaning the ceiling will be tied to an amount being held by the bank in case of default. You would have none of the above posts/problems :)
