Popular Post webfact
Suthep threatens to seize Yingluck’s assetsBANGKOK: -- Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban threatened to seize all the assets of caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra if she still defies the call of the people to resign. In a speech to several thousands of protesters at the Democracy Monument Saturday night, the secretary-general of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee said if the caretaker prime minister still clings to power arrogantly and ignores the people’s call, she will lose everything and will have to flee the country.Suthep said once the people announce the victory over the Thaksin regime, all her assets would be seized. The protest leader also disclosed that on the shutdown day, all major government offices will come under siege by protesters so as to prevent all officials to work or serve the caretaker government. All major roads leading to government offices will be blocked and all government vehicles will not be allowed to pass, except city buses which will continue servicing the people. He said houses of Ms Yingluck will also be blocked by an army of female protesters, of Surapong Tovichakchaikul, and of Kittirat na Ranong. For Mr Surapong, also the foreign minister, Mr Suthep said he would see ”Hell on earth does exist and will experience it.They will face mass protests that they have never seen or expected in their lives, Suthep said. The mass protests will also be held at the homes of the national police chief and his two deputies, he said.He also assured protesters that soldiers remain their good friends and wouldn’t harm the protesters, citing the riots in 2009 and 2010 that he and the armed forces had cooperated closely to protect the country from the rioters who now have become cabinet ministers.Suthep insisted that the shutdown meant only to paralyze the government while business will be least affected.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/suthep-threatens-seize-yinglucks-assets%E2%80%8F/ -- Thai PBS 2014-01-06

EricBerg
Ah well both sides already took the debate to a personal level. Thus making a compromis on reform more and more impossible. The old boy should retire fast when all this is over.
Popular Post Yunla
Obvious pun opportunity on removing the last three letters of the title aside, Suthep is showing that its about money too, we can leave it open to the too/entirely option. He is already lowering himself to common brigandage, seizing buildings and streets was mild, but really seizing of people's money is the full-on pirates leaping onto the shipdeck stuff. Its all very sad. The problem in Thailand is not about vote-buying, pre-elections, number of votes, money-in-bank-accounts, the problem in Thailand is post-election Parliamentary Regulation. Full stop.

Popular Post chooka
Why stop with Yingluk there are plenty of wealthy people in Thailand and you can take their assets also to fill your vault. It is becoming very clear what your real aim is. Lets not forget your dislike for farangs also, you can take their assets also, condos bank accounts etc.
Popular Post davehowden
Thaksins money should have been seized since a long time. Most he got from corruption. Only Thaksin? What about the rest of Thailands "elite", where did their money come from? Maybe not stop at Thailand either, how about Cambodia, Malaysia, USA even. Corruption is what World politics is based on I fear.

Popular Post Mampara
Hope the Thai people and all you foreigners living in Bangkok have a wonderful protest next week. You now see what type of mad man Suthep is. You will see how the Germans lived with Hitler. . Hitler was elected. And build his private brown shirts. So it better fits Thaksin and his red shirts. We'll close our company on Monday as all staff will go to the demonstrations. The only difference is That Hitler only had one ball, but Suthep has balls of steel..

Popular Post aussieinthailand
He keeps saying "follow the will of the people",,, well if he has "the will of the people" then go to the election and take government democratically,(legally)... BUT HE DOSE NOT, that's why he wont go too the election, same as Mark. I'd love to be reading soon that his assets will be seized , that would be just fine although late in coming.

Popular Post Emptyset
Suthep seemed to go out of his way to try to deliberately provoke red shirts in his speech last night.Sanitsuda Ekachai @sanitsuda 11h Suthep challenged Jatuporn and Nattawut to stage a march in Bangkok tomorrow to see how they would be received by Bangkokians.Sanitsuda Ekachai @sanitsuda 11h No Bangkokians forgot what you have done to Bangkok in 2010. Nor did the soldiers. So never hope that they will help you (the reds) :Suthep.Sanitsuda Ekachai @sanitsuda 11h Suthep is very aggressive with his words today, calling Jatuporn dog-faced for example.Sanitsuda Ekachai @sanitsuda 11h Suthep: Setting up a government? It will happen in your next life. If you are still stubborn, when we win, we will severely deal with you.Of course, what Suthep wants is confrontation because as Voranai rightly points out in the Bangkok Post, that's the only way they can win (article titled 'The military holds the key to suthep's victory - or defeat'). Yet there are some people who keep insisting it's the government that wants violence whilst Suthep is doing all he can to stay peaceful. Either they're naive or they secretly know what Suthep's game plan is, but think it's justified because they're so blinded by hatred for Thaksin that anything goes at this point. Sure, people should wake up about Thaksin, but best not to have too many illusions about Suthep and his backers either.

If this is a case of corruption then sorry to say the people should seize Suthep's assets, Chalerm's, Banharn's, and about 99% of the other politicians'!

Popular Post Emptyset
Thaksins money should have been seized since a long time. Most he got from corruption. They were seized. Have you forgotten the 2006 coup and the 46 billion baht the court took? He's probably actually a net beneficiary because I doubt he made anywhere near that from stealing from the state. Policy corruption? Well, it's arguable. His companies benefitted from his time as PM but so did others in the same industry. In fact I believe DTAC and Truemove actually did better than AIS during his last years in office. There were the loans, of course, which benefited him, but was that really a loss to the state in the end? Direct stealing though? Hmm... And you know the CTX scanner thing was probably the stand-out example I can remember. People involved made 600 million on that. His sister and wife were obviously heavily involved in the airport. But it's all very carefully layered. Too many people involved. Not enough evidence for the court to move on the scanners. In fact, all the cases against him were difficult to prove when it came down to it. That's why they got him on the nonsense land charge. Changing the law to avoid tax was what turned a lot of people against him, of course. The final straw. Lot of things he did wrong, but people exaggerate out of all proportion. Newin was involved in several of these cases, wasn't he? Wonder what happened to his rubber sapling case when he was in govt with Abhisit in 09... (of course, there may not have been enough evidence there either but those who are cynical about the justice system would no doubt make insinuations). Popular Post FangFerang
This is a good idea, and should include seizing the assets of anyone involved in corruption, including, well, illegal rubber farms and Suthep's assets too..... I think seizing the assets of corrupt leaders would pay off the entire national debt, but Suthep only wants the other side to pay...curiouser and curiouser said Alice... What a tragedy. Both sides claiming the moral high ground, where neither has ever visited even once.

Popular Post BirdsandBooze
At the end of the day, for Suthep's super elite backers (make no mistake he is just a frontman for the 'old money') it is about wealth. Whether it's the working class being used by Thaksin to further his ends or the middle class being used by the elitists to protect their jealously guarded privilege, ordinary people are being duped and used to lend validity to these battles between the vested interests and will be discarded without sentiment.
