To put this all into perspective, when Chaikasem Nitisiri was appointed justice minister in July, he denied it was because he had helped Thaksin's legal woes when he was attorney general. He also denied that he would push for an amnesty bill. A few months later - lo and behold - who is publicly championing the amnesty bill that would have in effect exonerated Thaksin as well as over 25,000 people convicted of corruption ? Nitisiri. So for he of all people - who is supposed to uphold the rule of law - after this amnesty bill was rammed through parliament, and in light of the administration's disavowal of a ruling of the Constitution Court - in effect refusing to recognize the Constitutional Court - it seems more than disingenuous for him to be threatening the people of Thailand with breaking the law ! The only law this man appears to be upholding is the law as interpreted by Thaksin. So now Nitisiri is in essence threatening to jail every Thai who turns up with sedition. It seems as if the cells are going to be awfully crowded with those who still believe in the right to free expression and protest. The Thai people do not need permission to walk the streets of their own country. It is shameful that the administration has been reduced to intimidation on this scale, on their own people. And when the world sees Thais from all walks of life peacefully walking the streets, it will put all these tactics to shame. As well it should.

Where to start ?

1. Can you point to any of my recent posts, where I claim to love Suthep ? I don't, once he'd persuaded the PM of the need for an election, he'd outlived his usefulness IMO.

2. The economy has been crashed, not principally by the protests, but by the government's economic-policies over the past 2 1/2 years.

3. The 52 other governments support the holding of elections, but they don't necessarily support PTP winning, although I suspect that Cambodia might.

4. I suggested that perhaps Thaksin might be seriously worried, about where the protests were leading, I did not say "Everybody", although you might well be right about that.

5. Agree about why the military are 'coming-to-town', although it might make an excellent cover-story, or be used to imply army-support for PTP.

Your post is careful to avoid my main point however, which was that recent announcements by the caretaker-Cabinet & assorted poo-yais, seem to be coordinated (by CAPO or by the caretaker-PM's new PR-people ?) to try to deter or frighten the people who might take part on January 13th, and that this might be a panic-response to the deteriorating situation.

215 Whenever ten persons upwards being assembled together do or threaten to do an act of violence, or do any thing to cause a breach of the peace, every such person shall be punished with imprisonment not exceeding six months or fined not exceeding one thousand Baht, or both.

And then if you could push aside the arrogance for a bit and do some more reading in the Penal Code the link to other crimes and heavier (/the heaviest) penalties can be made.

After the election perhaps we'll see some of the "A" team returning from suspension for not conducting themselves in a democratic fashion. You speak of " True Democracy". True democracy is far from dividing a people into A and B teams . I do not think even Mr Suthep and his entourage would like to write a post like yours. Your approach is only likely to disrupt an already fragile democracy. Hitler divided up the people in the A-team and B-team and then did everything to eradicate one of the teams. Is he your mentor?

The most important thing right now for a country like Thailand is actually not a true democracy (and here I mean true democracy, and not the kind of democracy that ramrod711 advocates ) . Much more important is functioning establishments such as all public institutions. Police force is just one but an important example. For getting everything to work of course all corruption must be fought with "all available means". Equally important is that the level of education must be increased for all classes of society. This would also change and improve the broad masses insight in future, economy and environment.

Use the TV for educational purposes and not to anesthetize people with crappy soapy operas and false commercials. Create good teachers and give all Thais the opportunity to a good education.

With a higher level of education and minimized corruption democracy will come automatically!

The row between the yellow and red is like a primitive and meaningless war between tribes, races or religions. Respect “Equal Value of All Human Life”*) and respect the fragile democracy. If someone misuses his (or her!) power, sue him (or her!) and send him (or her!) to court like in less corrupted countries.

Indeed this statement caries all the hallmarks of a rabid hysterical supporter of corrupt and oppressive government whose puppet master is rapidly losing his sight of the establishment of his one new political family dynasty (Dictatorship)

Just by viewing the news reports on the assorted media outlets we can clearly see that the public are totally disenchanted with the Thaksin scheme of things.

In my view and I am sure I am not alone in that view. If the Thaksin clan were to totally withdraw from the political areas as he has promised ''to wash my hands of politics'' a number of times and to be honest depart the country too as Thaksin has already done.
