Number of visitors to lower by more than 200,000 during PDRC's rallies

BANGKOK, 10 January 2014 (NNT) – The PDRC's rallies shutdown are expected to lower the number of tourists by more than 200,000, says the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra indicated in her Facebook posted on Thursday that the overall tourism scene was still growing, although tourist numbers were dropping in Bangkok.

According to her, the government had prepared measures to aid tourists during the upcoming political rally. An assistant hotline for tourists would be promoted, and tourists arriving at Suvarnabhumi would be given travel information and encouraged to travel via the Airport Link to avoid traffic congestion.

Tourism Council of Thailand chairperson Piyaman Techaphaibun said the council expected tourism revenue generated to miss target by 18 billion baht because of the political situation.

Meanwhile, Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Thawatchai Aranyik said the TAT expected that the number of tourists to drop by more than 200,000 during January 13 and 15, accounting for a loss of more than 10 billion baht in revenue.

The TCT says a loss of 18 billion and TAT says 10 billion, which one is actually running tourism the Tourism Council or Authority? Why do they the two, combine them

Lil sis means everything is under control for the tourists. May come what comes. NOT.

They have not the faintest Idea of what the tourist figures or percentages will be during the shutdown.

If they were so brilliant as they shout, and can see all the future, they could have played a vital role in the preventing of any problems, in government.

How can you have 2 or 3 bodies trying to control tourism ???? all predicting different figures, a laughing stock for sure.

The figures are going to be much lower BUT the general trend is up ??? Give us a break you fools.

I was in Bangkok 2 days ago and MBK and Suk. around Soi 4 was packed with white people, more than I have ever seen at this time of year. Khao San Rd is probably full too.

The PDRC's rallies shutdown are expected to lower the number of tourists by more than 200,000, good thinking I was thinking along the same lines not really expecting tourist numbers to increase by much during this period sadly but we shall see when TAT gives us the exact honest and precise numbers how much tourist numbers have increased.

TAT saying numbers will drop. xshock1.gif.pagespeed.ic.Q3XOm0fuQs.png . They must be false TAT.

All you can do is estimate, even after the protests are over. Tourism will be down in Bangkok

and probably up elsewhere as people go elsewhere to escape the unrest of Bangkok. coffee1.gif

I wouldn't worry, by the end of the year TAT's tourist figures will have exceeded all forecasts, especially for those 'quality tourists' that Thailand is so keen to attract. coffee1.gif

I am suprised they are not advertising adventure tours of BKK for that "authentic civil war experience"

the sad part is, Thailand could see major bloodshed, and all the w*nkers at the various tourist bodies in Thailand are worried about is the amount of money they will loose...

So if 200,000 tourists spend 10,000,000,000 THB, than one 'average' tourist spends 500,000 THB....

OK, now I understand all the TAT 'calculations'.... Of course, a family of four on vacation spend around 2 Million THB whistling.gif

TAT, you are one of the biggest jokes in Thailand bah.gif
