Yes, we all have the problem of Thai people shuffling around extremely slowly and changing lanes suddenly. Here is an easy solution:

Excellent. Will test tomorrow when I have to walk through Asoke intersection.

So simple yet it seems so effective. Great idea - until everyone gets one.

Leaning over the top of slow walkers works for me

Yes very clever and big bonus non-confrontational.

But let me point out the better solution - stop being in such a hurry, learn to enjoy life not focus so much on "productivity".

Slow walking fine by me.

I used to wonder why Thai walked (relatively) slowly.

It's not that Thais walk too slow, but we walk to fast in the Thai Tropical climate.

Sure, I used to get frustrated, manoeuvring past folk to get there 1 minute faster to the BTS,

arrived on the platform, quickly started to sweat-up, feeling uncomfortably, hoping that air-conditioned

train would arrive quickly so I could cool down.

A minute later the Thais I had pushed past, arrive on the Platform in their typical laconic style,

nary a bead of sweat on them.

I didn't bother to watch the clip ... I'm assuming that's a Tazer Gun ... facepalm.gif ... classy.

BTW ... I'm not apologising for the Thai walking speed, but just understanding why they walk at a slower pace then we do in the West.

Nope, get your palm out of your face and watch it.

Japanese style, not yankish.

My BAD ...

It's good, just looked like a Tazer Gun on the still frame ... thanks for the enlightenment ... thumbsup.gif

Maybe an example of how modern media has turned our culture brutal and cynical.

its a great idea until he does it to the wrong person and they beat the living crap out of him :D

In my personal circumstance, I'm heading back over to Thailand in a couple of days and have a heap to do before I leave, so have given myself an allocated time to read some of the posts here before I start work on the important things I have to get done before I leave.

Your point is valid though. In the same way that the next guy to ask about SinSot in General will probably get hammered (brutal and cynical comments) because of our recent experience with that Trolling Film Maker.

Use it wrong and you'll need a proctologist to get it back for you.

Still, I love it. I'd never use it, but love it anyway.

Bike bell by aslanmobile on the play store.

Designed for use with "slow walkers"

perfect, loud enough ring tone, they get out of your way, can play innocent, jusr my phone!

Brilliant. I especially liked how the guy on the escalator moved over.

Wouldn't work well in Thailand however as there are only 7 bicycles in the whole country and most Thais wouldn't connect the ding ding of a bicycle bell with the need to move over.

They're more likely to think it's somebody selling som-tum and stop dead in their tracks and do a U-turn to buy some.

Now if you had a sound on your smartphone app that sounded like the 'meep-meep" of a scooter horn with a faint background noise of a 110cc engine, you might make some progress. thumbsup.gif

Nice to see it's not just me who is driven mad by dreadful pedestrian skills here, especially when it's a baking hot day and dawdlers mean I get stuck next to some blazing barbecue stall....

An outright ban on flip flops would rectify the issue of slow walking.

I resemble that remark.

I wear thongs...aka flipflops by the lesser design styled misfits....and I walk fast.....except at 2am

Thais are oblivious to audible warnings. How many times have you beeped your horn at a motorcyclist or pedestrian and they just carry on doing whatever stupid manouver they are performing. You might get an exagerated bow of the head as they cut in front of you occasionally if they realise they completely stuffed up.

A taser would be much more effective here.

Bicycle bells....look at all the problems whistles are supposed to cause, what could happen with a bell.

or maybe one of these will work.

There are plenty bikes in Thailand, bikeshops grow like mushrooms lately. They all bike in our moobaan on minibikes or real expensive racingbikes and wear the full equipment including helmets. They also go out on the highways in bkk at dusk in groups.

The problem is that they bike on the nice walkingtracks that we have around the lake. I won't jump aside for them, i let them stop first.

Last week in Chinatown i was walking in a very busy street while i heard somebody yelling behind me and pushing me at my back. I didn't pay attention but then they pushing became harder and also the yelling did. When i looked over my shoulder i saw a chinese with huge bags pushing me because he was in a hurry. I told him to leave me alone and didn't step aside because he was so rude but he put his bag on the floor and pushed me hard. I didn't want to start a fight for that but was shocked how rude they can be in chinatown.

I have one of those on my motorcycle, works perfect whistling.gif

Most likely here you would need at least an aerosol powered fog horn! It would also be handy to wake up those who like to "squeeze" the veggies and fruit.

True, Thais are a bit impervious to audible warnings.

Russian tourists however are not. w00t.gif

I used to make it a habit of beeping the scooter horn at meandering Russians walking down side sois and see them leap out of the way. It was a bit of a hobby.

But I decided to curtail the practice after I beeped at one poor woman (middle aged, rotund, wearing an indecent bikini) and she dropped the bottle of Chang she was swigging on and virtually leaped onto the back of a Vigo parked beside her. Equally rotund husband started to chase me while my wife on the back of the scooter was beating me across the back of the head.

I had to avoid that soi for a week for safety's sake. laugh.png

Do they have an app that sounds like a motosai taxi revving his motor on the sidewalk behind you?

Because I move over when I hear that.
