Meanwhile, local authorities are to distribute warm clothing to residents during this wintry period. Furthermore, the Department of Disease Control also suggested ways for the public to keep themselves warm to avoid illnesses caused by cold spell.According to DDPM’s Director-General, Chatchai Promlert, the Department the mercury has further dropped in parts of Thailand as high pressure ridge from China is spreading over the Northeastern region as well as the South China Sea. This drop of 1-3 degree Celsius combined with the existing cold weather will lead to a further drop of 6-8 degree Celsius in the upper part of the country.Local authorities have been requested to prepare measures to assist local residents during this harsh wintry condition, including the distribution of warm clothing. Residents may also request assistance at hotline 1784, round the clock.The Department of Disease Control has also suggested that local residents avoid illnesses during this period. Those under 5 or over 65 years old and those with underlying diseases, including liver and heart diseases, diabetes, or asthma are considered risk groups. They should regularly check their conditions and keep themselves warm at all times.Warm clothing is a necessity during this time, especially for small children. Regular sip of warm beverages is recommended along with the consumption of food that contains a lot of protein and carbohydrate to bring up body temperature.Residents should avoid consuming alcoholic beverages, sleeping in an open area, and staying in crowded places where diseases can easily spread.
