Part time work in Chiang Mai: surveillance operator

As a child, did you want to be a secret agent when you grow up? Well now you can, kind of.

You will receive a message that tells you a location and time. The location is always somewhere in public, for example, a bar or a restaurant in central Chiang Mai. The time is usually during the evening or night. The time between when you receive the information and the time when you need to be at the location is usually about six hours.

After receiving the details, you will reply whether you are available for the specified location and time or not. If not, you are not paid and someone else is assigned for the job. If yes, the job is confirmed by you receiving more information, that is, the picture and description of the target person or persons, and more detailed information what is expected from you.

The most common job is basic surveillance. That is, when you arrive to the location, you will use your mobile phone to take pictures of the target person or persons, and who the target person is with. Naturally, the target person must not notice that you are taking pictures or following him/her. If the target person is not there, you will take photos of the area, stay for a few minutes to see if the target arrives and then leave. You will be still paid for your services.

If the target person notices that you are following, you will not be hired again. Also, you will be tested. At the location, there may or may not be other operatives who follow the same target and if they detect you, you will not be hired again.

Understanding the Thai language is a big plus for the job. Having a motorbike to travel within the central Chiang Mai is a requirement. Having a smartphone with a camera is a requirement.

You will receive 500 baht per hour for your services. Usually one job takes from 1 to up to 5 hours. This means you can easily make 2000 baht per day. For any job, you will be paid atleast 500 baht, even if the job takes under an hour. Jobs usually start between 21:00 and 01:00 at evening/night. You will be paid after you have delivered the photos and a brief report of what the target person did on the location. You will be paid either by cash or by money transfer.
