BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra came out for the first time to express regret over deaths and injuries of bomb attacks and denounced those who were responsible.

She said she was concerned about the escalation of the situation which has turned violent and expressed regret for those who were killed and injured by bomb attacks.

She denounced the attackers and ordered the police to try their best to bring them to trial as soon as possible.

She also sought cooperation from the protesters to allow the police and soldiers to protect protesters by setting up joint checkpoint to ensure safety.

She said she has also designated the national security council to assess the current situation to see whether it is necessary now to revoke the emergency decree.

The caretaker prime minister assured all the victims would be remedied by the government same as those who were killed and injured in the 2010 riot, adding however compensation needed to have prior approval from the Election Commission.

PM: Govt will compensate victims of political violence during PDRC's protests

BANGKOK, 21 January 2014 (NNT) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has called on the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) to allow authorities to provide security in the rally sites and expressed the government's readiness to compensate victims of violence during the protests.

The PM on Monday expressed concerns over the rallies and condolences to the victims. She said the government did not want to see violence and condemned those responsible for it.

The premier stated further that she had asked police officers to urgently investigate the incidents and find the culprits. Ms Yingluck also suggested the protesters allow police and military officers to enter the rally sites to safeguard them.

The deaths and the injuried would be compensated but the government must consult with the Election Commission first, said the premier.

That you guys can resort to criticism or cynacism over this truly illustrates the problem.

This place is turning into a rabid cesspool of mouth - breathers throwing assumptions, accusations, and conspiracy theories at one another and politicizing every little bit of news just to make them feel good that their side is right. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

She expresses regret, but doesn't she realize that she is responsible? If she and her family had not stolen from the people of Thailand, none of this would be happening.

She is the only person who could also immediately bring it all to an end it all by resigning.

Blackman said it... two faced bi**h !!

She should be criticised for taking 3 days to make a comment on the bombings.

Almost 4 years later, we are still waiting for Abhisit and Suthep to apologize for the 90 killed in 2010!coffee1.gif

Sorry to disturb you from your coffee - but Abhisit and Suthep have used exactly the same word (regret) as Yingluck did above.

Abhisit expressed regret for the 2010 deaths on April 11, the following day. He didn't take 3 days to make a comment.

The tragedy is that it turned into it already... getting worse day by day.

"The deaths and the injuried . . . "

Must have a 3-year-old doing the editing.

Oh! Most educated one; have u never heard of Thaiglish before! It is an acceptable form of English here in Thailand. As long as it is understandable, and makes sense.

Are you completely lost about what is going on? The 2010 violence was brought on by the protesters, commanded by their leaders to "burn Bangkok to the ground", and it was either let Bangkok be burned to the ground and its people terrorized, or have the Army step in

Here, the protesters could not be more peaceful, and their leaders are commanding them to be non-violent and carry no arms (not even a pen knife), yet their opponents who could only be motivated by their allegiance to Thaksin's regime are bombing and shooting the unarmed and peaceful crowd.

Either you are a paid propagandist, a rabble-rouser, or a moron. Ten year olds can figure this shit out.

I hope the EC does not drag its feet on 402.gif compensating the families of the victims who were wounded and killed. I would be surprised if even the polarized TV posters did not agree with this.unsure.png

I support the current protesters in their attempt to get rid of the Shinawatras, and no, I do not want Suthep as PM. However, I do not support that the government is compensating the families of anyone who dies in these conflicts - no matter what color their shirt is. Unless the government is found guilty of wounding or killing someone, the government should not be compensating anyone. They should however pay the hospital bills for the injured, just as they should pay the bill for everyone else who is sick or injured in thailand for whatever reason (free medicare for all).

We are really at the point where these statements are beginning to sound awfully hollow. This is a prime minister completely disengaged from what the people are experiencing on the streets and from reality. It's a bizarre form of disconnect. And her seclusion is also strange. She's always hidden from the scenes. If she were the leader of almost any other country, she would be personally extending her sympathies to the victims, or at least have them over to Government House. Or at least talking to them on the phone. The optics are painfully inadequate.
