Is it safe to fish the Klongs/Canels

Hi I live just outside Bangkok, I do see people swimming/fishing the canal, but are they safe to fish as I would think you could get disease's from polluted water through cuts in hand etc What do you think or do you know are the waters safe to Fish?

You have got to be joking.In Rawai there is raw sewerage running down the klongs into the sea.

Right I might give that a miss, but it is a very wide canal, and I am north of Bangkok, nearly into the sticks, so the water here would be cleaner than Rawai, and there is a strong water flow, I might just stick to buying the bucket of fish food from the machine along the canal for 10 baht, and feed the fish which is fun, there are 1000 of fish there, does anyone know there name? they have a flat mouth and kind of blue grey color, if that helps..

If I can stand the smell, I'll fish it. I'm a catch and release guy, though. No matter how clean the water.

Precautions like washing cuts and scrapes, keeping a towel handy soaked with clean water, and not eating anything by hand, have served me fairly well.
