So now the caretaker government has two pupet masters, The one in dubai and then ............

He said the US State Department has strongly condemned the outlawed activity in Thailand and called on the Thai government to take legal action against offenders.

So now they are taking orders from the USA, <deleted> what a load of BS and lies that guy spouts. Thought they didn't like it when falangs tell them what they should do!

He claims the US actually made this statement, which seems very very doubtful.

Any members seen any news reports etc., to support his claim?

Lot of well thought out and insighful posts today from the Coup side. All about appearance and nothing of substance.

US is firmly on side and you would only get to know just how much so if you staged the Coup.... You have to read US, Eurpoeran and Asian media to get a handle on this as Thai Media is firmly on Suhtps side.

They make it appear there is a massive body of opinion wanting the army in or yingluck, but there isn't . It's just that they control the Courts, EC, Media that make it look like this. Everybody else sees it different.

Nobody on the march today, and they had to time it to hit the office areas at lunch time to catch some office workers or there would have been nobody on the streets to watch it. Terrible small turn out in his supposed supprt base

NY Time article was picked up and gained legs and they really had a go at the EC. and if you want to make comments about appearance just look how dumb old Somchai looks in his. Nice Job Done by free media.

Of course nobody has come up with anything about the big question. "What then" if there is a coup? None of them can think that far and most are waiting for Suthep to tell them what to think and do!!!! Demanding a People council that will rob themselves of their vote and not allow them any input.. Sooooooooo educated are the Bangkok middle class looking now.

Yawn...do you believe your own bull sh!t?

Pmpkins - no harm to you but you seriously talk the biggest load of crap on here - absolute jibberish - that was either a troll post or you've got something short of 52

He said the US State Department has strongly condemned the outlawed activity in Thailand and called on the Thai government to take legal action against offenders.

Below is the actual U.S. State Dept statement a few days ago according to this news link.

"The United States strongly condemns increasing violence in Bangkok that has resulted in deaths and injuries. We urge Thai authorities to investigate these attacks and bring those responsible to justice. We urge all sides to refrain from violence, exercise restraint, and respect the rule of law.

"The United States supports democratic institutions and processes in Thailand, our long-time friend and ally. We encourage all involved to commit to sincere dialogue to resolve political differences peacefully and democratically."

Me thinks the full U.S. State Dept statement presents a different connotation than Khun Surapong's version of the statement. Wonder why Khun Surapong didn't mention the last sentence from the U.S. State Dept statement.

Compare the two quotes and tell what difference there is between them.

Surapong: said the US State Department has strongly condemned the outlawed activity

US: The United States strongly condemns increasing violence in Bangkok that has resulted in deaths and injuries

Surapong:in Thailand and called on the Thai government to take legal action against offenders.

US: We urge Thai authorities to investigate these attacks and bring those responsible to justice.

So where the #@%$ is "the different connotation than Khun Surapong's version of the statement" that you see?

The government offers to hold peace talks with the protesters and is castigated by some posters on here. You then complain that surapong doesn't mention the last sentence from the US State department.

Well , the government is "committed to sincere dialogue to resolve political differences peacefully and democratically". If suthep isn't, is it the Governments problem?

look the statement in the OP about the US is nothing more than word games and deception, something that PTP are actually quite good at - the clue is the total omission of the word protestors with reference to the US - although the whole article is slanted from the start to deceive it is clearly two very disconnected stories made to look like one

I don't think anyone here would be fooled by such a deception but I'm pretty sure many Thais would - no insult intended

I'm not sure the US would be pleased about their words being abused in such a way - perhaps their statements should be more refined to stop this BS of missquotes

As usual, you manage to put further PTP spin on it, despite the fact that Surapong has already spun it so much...!

Here's the difference that you asked for......

When referring to "outlawed activity", Surapong is clearly talking about the protests, and he is using part of the US statement to suggest that the US is urging the Thai [caretaker] government to take legal action against the "offenders/protesters".

The US statement is clearly referring to the attacks against the peaceful protesters on the street, and actually urging the Thai [caretaker] government to find those responsible for these cowardly attacks and "bring them to justice".

You probably still fail to see the difference, but that is by choice..!

Is that a bad photo or is Surapong looking a bit worst for wear ???? ...... coffee1.gif

He is in the wrong business. With that face and demeanor he should clearly be a funeral director.

You are so desperate for a coup aren't you, why ?

Lots of substance, just nothing you like, poor diddums.

Nobody controls the courts, Taksin has tried and even he didn't succeed, they are simply doing their jobs properly...

Plenty of people on the march today, thousands lining the streets the whole way waiting to give their support to oust the criminal caretakers...but again it doesn't fit your narrative so you lie to try and pretend it didn't happen.

Care to give the link for the article you mention ? And the NY Times has clearly been biased and one sided in everything they have written on the situation here so I wouldn't read too much into it. Nobody here cares what they think anyway...

And again why are you so desperate for a coup ? Suteb and the protestors all know what that means and they don't want it to happen....

And they are not trying to rob anyone of the vote, they are trying for reform to clean up politics so that your vote ( well not yours or mine as we aren't citizens here ) but Thai people's votes really will have meaning in a true democracy insstead of the crappy Taksinocracy we have at the moment.

And again, why are YOU so desperate for a coup....?

Surapong Tovichakchaikul claims the US State Department "... strongly condemned the outlawed activity in Thailand and called on the Thai government to take legal action against offenders."

I know the US has a habit of interfering in other countries affairs, but in this instance, the state department reportedly urged the Thai authorities to investigate the attacks and bring those responsible to justice." That seems somewhat different to Surapong's [mis]interpretation.

Right... The Government issues an Emergency Decree with one hand and offers an olive branch to the protesters with the other. The latter is just PR crap. They want the latter in print as a record for perhaps something very nasty that's about to happen.

Something very nasty like police trying to clear the area? Don't see why they've enforced the SOE if they're not going to do that. Like Abhisit's govt in 2010, decree was announced on April 7th and first serious attempt to crackdown came on April 10th, the day the MiB appeared. Whilst I don't think any MiB will appear and fight for Suthep, at least some of his guards will be armed and probably combat trained. So I can envisage something similar happening, although hopefully not as bad as in 2010. It's unlikely police would be able to clear out the protesters using only batons and tear gas.

But Suthep and the protesters want a council or nothing. There's to be no "win-win" solution said Suthep, only "win-lose". So how is negotiation possible?

Posted

Another reason for the SOE could be so they can easily arrest PDRC leaders if they try to disrupt the election. No need for a warrant etc. That would be my guess if they're not going to try to clear protesters from protest sites.

Does Surapong want to negotiate with Suthep on behalf of the government before or after the government arrests him (Suthep) and charges him with insurrection, treason, violating the ISA, double parking and whatever else they can think of??? tongue.png

One more offer given to Suthep for dialogue and favor peace rather than endless irrational fighting.

The offer will be rebuffed by these yellow extremists, as usual.

So, let's hope that Chalerm can clear these protests sites as soon as possible.

why is it everything this government does is just a cluster'f of complete incompetence and yet they are still being heard

Time for intervention - very easily justified and might I add nothing to do with Suthep or the protestors - PTP have taken incompetence to new levels on their own - the caretaker military need to step in and bring some form of normality back to the Thai people - all of them

They have some good ideas from Suthep - how about moving forward with reforms and including all - is it a coup, well that is debatable but everyone knows something has to change - my vote goes to the military and getting a broad group together and making changes to stop this happening again - history cannot be ignored - tell me I'm wrong and give reasons

See a lot of people saying theres no point in dialogue, you cant talk to PTP, no talking its past that.

What is there to lose by trying ? and if you havnt tried you cant say zip because you dont have anything but supposition to base your refusal to talk on. In other words its being immature.

Just another way of avoiding compromise, being stubborn and acting like a child......

Mature adults talk, immature adults stamp their feet or shout and cry.

There is no reconciliation without talking, unless you wish it to be decided by the army for you, and then itll only be put off for a few years until the next and possibly far more violent protests or worse a real uprising that destroys everything that is currently held dear.

It would be a shame but sometimes I cant help but think only a full blown uprising will be what forces this country to make the changes it so badly needs.

Suthep's demand is for Yingluck to resign. If she won't resign, there is nothing to talk about.

I totally agree with you.

There is no reason for Yingluck to resign since Suthep and his followers only represent a tiny minority.

So indeed there is nothing to talk about.

Let Chalerm clear the streets, arrest all these annoying yellow thugs, and let's get back to a peaceful life -_-

Suthep goes to his prison cell and stays there till he calms down... Good riddance. No need to talk, you are absolutely right
