That's because of Global Warming!

Record cold temperatures around the world won't stop the global warming industry with their dire predictions.

There's always an idiot regurgitating somebody else's nonsense. Hey Einstein, Global Warming is real. The everage temperatures have been steadily rising. 2013 was the warmest year on record. But the vast complexity of the climate system means that this rapid global temperature increase will manifest in extreme weather events all over the planet. IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT WILL BE WARMER EVERYWHERE. What it does mean that the weather will become more extreme, which is exactly what is happening right now. Arctic blasts in the Northern hemisphere, record heat waves in Australia, more powerful storms, more rain, longer droughts, etc. etc.

School dismissed.

Now you can stick your head back where it came from.

Global Climate Change. Well duh, the global climate has been changing for millennia... In the 70s we learned that the next ice age was 'approaching' (100,000 years or so...), in the 80s/90s we learned that global warming was an rapidly approaching 'disaster'... In the 00s we learned that scientists don't have anywhere near enough data to know whether we are warming or cooling...

Chill-out brethren, mother earth is doing what she does and we humans are NOT controlling or causing it, she will cool or heat based not on us but based on a much more complex schedule that we have yet to understand...

Farking alarmists!!

idiotic.

the warming widens the differences in air pressure areas.

that sounds like a perfectly cromulent scientific explanation

Or not.

And this is a big part of the problem. For some reason a large bunch of stark raving lunatics have anointed themselves as "scientists" just because they agree with a particular "scientific theory". This gives them the apparent authority to waffle on endlessly about "peer reviewed research" even though they have the collective IQ of a packet of chips.

I'm back home at present with temperatures in low single figures during the day. Heavy frost & ice in the mornings, you don't drive the car, you turn the steering wheel & pray the car goes round the corner before it slams into the tree your heading for with no control.

15 degrees would mean I could take off at least 4 layers of extra clothing.

That's because of Global Warming!

Record cold temperatures around the world won't stop the global warming industry with their dire predictions.

NASA has figure that show the warming trend - short term variations are normal - its the long term figures that count - and they do not look good.

"NASA Science News for Jan. 21, 2014

NASA scientists say 2013 tied with 2009 and 2006 for the seventh warmest year since 1880, continuing a long-term trend of rising global temperatures. With the exception of 1998, the 10 warmest years in the 134-year record all have occurred since 2000, with 2010 and 2005 ranking as the warmest years on record.

The average temperature in 2013 was 58.3 degrees Fahrenheit (14.6 Celsius), which is 1.1 F (0.6 C) warmer than the mid-20th century baseline. The average global temperature has risen about 1.4 degrees F (0.8 C) since 1880, according to the new analysis. Exact rankings for individual years are sensitive to data inputs and analysis methods.

Scientists emphasize that weather patterns always will cause fluctuations in average temperatures from year to year, but the continued increases in greenhouse gas levels in Earth's atmosphere are driving a long-term rise in global temperatures. Each successive year will not necessarily be warmer than the year before, but with the current level of greenhouse gas emissions, scientists expect each successive decade to be warmer than the previous."

So do I but that's nothing new. This planet has been getting warmer since the year dot and it doesn't take thousands of scientists and experts to discover that. Had it not been the case the ice age would still be firmly in place and there was no industrial revolution to speed things up until the very recent past and that has probably had very little impact. The rate of increase will vary, depending on the activity of the sun, which is unpredictable in itself and will continue to do so because there is nothing to stop it until the temperature reaches a level where our star only maintains that temperature.

Nor the global warming denial industry funded by the carbon industry to fool all those gullible souls who cannot face scientific truth.

Note to the simpletons: human-induced global warming is characterised by extreme weather events, including cold weather events.

Colder than a brass toilet seat on the shady side of an iceberg in Chiang Mai

Teed off in a Chiangmai at 6.30am and my balls were white with cold.

Just arrived in Pai for a 3 day "chill out" and they told us it was 2 degrees centigrade this morning. Definitely a "chill out"!

Note to the morons: extreme weather events have been occurring since before homosapiens evolved.

Thankx. You made my day. The funniest post today. Makes me even forget my wish to scramble Suthep's glasses. Thank you!

That is funny, the scientific community is very solidly behind the global climate change, but still your kinds of amateurs think they know better! There is no debate among scientists whether it is happening or not, it is already proven it is happening. That debate among scientists happened already during the 90's.

The only question is how many degrees more warmer. The models have been actually too conservative, the warming is on the upper section of the temperature range. Only in the media the few idiotic (mostly American) denialists are given endlessly time to spill more of their BS, given false impression the climate scientists are somehow still divided about the subject. No, they are not.

Btw, extreme weather patterns are part of the climate change because warming changes the wind patterns, the low and high pressure areas. Scandinavia had very mild, snowless winter until about January 10th, even some flowers started blossoming. Something out of Paris/Zurich latitude level, 20 degrees to the south. Then the temperatures suddenly dropped to -20 to -30 C in few days because the wind patterns turned into more what used to be normal. Northern America had very cold December due to change in the polar vortex but then again summers have been very hot in many places there.

The planet Venus is an extreme example of the greenhouse effect. The wind speeds there are 300-400 km/h. We are going to get more extreme winds because the warming widens the differences in air pressure areas.

It's not true that there is consensus among scientists. It's yet another lie from the Global Warming industry. And all the predictions they made turned out to be completely wrong. There hasn't been any warming in 16 years. Whilst true that there might be a small warming due to the extra man made CO2, it's not going to have much effect on our climate. Which we can see it hasn't. What does have a huge effect are the number of sunspots. Prepare for a lot colder weather. Soon we will all be wishing that Global Warming was real.

The Scandinavian early winter was mild. But now it is not. Now record cold temperatures are being recorded. Also, the last summer was one of the mildest on record.

And it should be clear to anyone, that people who call others 'denialists' for not believing their theory, do not have an honest agenda.

the other thing people do not consider is the orbit of the Earth. It is, from start to finish, about a 25,000 year cycle.

Climate can change quite dramatically(albeit slowly on the human time scale) over this time period.

Remember Greenland when the Vikings were there 1,000 years ago?

Yep it was green. And the Thames would freeze 150 years ago.

The change in temperature from summer to winter in say Europe is quite noticeable as I am sure all would agree. This is caused by a very small difference in the relative angle of the Earth to the Sun due to the rotational axis of the Earth.....we don't sit straight up and down. It is a tiny amount of change for a significant change in temperature.

Extrapolate that over 25,000 years..........with the planet.moving closer and further away from the Sun....

Throw in the sunspot variations and variations due to water vapour in the atmosphere and it makes for quite a complex mix. The scientists who say we are doomed also have colleagues who say any increase in atmospheric temperature can be mitigated by injecting SO2 into the upper atmosphere which reflects the suns rays and has a cooling effect.

Not saying we shouldn't cut down on the pollution and the use of our natural resources - of course we should for the sake of us and the earth. But lets not also become hysterical (and tax people, cos that's what it's really about) about something we may not have a whole lot of influence over in the longer term.

I love this planet, after all it is the only one known to have beer!!

Farking alarmists!!

First it was "since 1998 no warming" because the year 1998 is so important (Jesus came down for the 2nd time or something)! Then when proven wrong, their time line expands into centuries (except the last one). Now already a millenia and humans cannot do anything about it, according to denialists.

Then they jump into arctic sea coverage debate and once again the time line just keeps on expanding every time they are proven incorrect. Typical circlejerk for them.

The increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide is the main cause of climate change. Global warming is one aspect of the slow change that is developing.
The denialists have no clue what is the greater danger that could endanger life on Earth.
If we keep on increasing CO2 emissions and reduce the natural CO2 to Os recycler by chopping down the rain forests then we will get much more than colder winters and hotter summers.
But you cannot convince the skeptics and they won't be around to see the results, but pity our great grand kids though.

Love that term "denialists". They must have hired a PR firm to come up with that. What's the opposite? "blinkered believer"? "Devotee"?"Disciple"?

Agree totally with your comments about the rainforests, or any forests for that matter. Co2 in O2 out...and we need O2. Of course we can always plant more trees.

The "Warmers" will say cold weather is consistent with global warming. Their logic works perfectly; no matter what happens there is a perfectly logical reason why it supports the global warming cause. I still think it is a scam by the people whose jobs rely on there being global warming.

Climate is not like a sauna, evenly warmed. Europe relies on Gulf Stream to keep it inhabitable for humans. The extreme temperature differences are shown in this picture:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Golfstrom.jpg

It sounds contradictory but warming changes the wind patterns and cold air masses from Artic can be pushed temporarily more south than normally (USA/Canada last month). At the same time warmer air is going further north than normally (Scandinavia last month) in a different location.

That same kind of high air pressure mass brings clear skys and high temperatures in the summertimes. That also sounds very contradictory. Very cold in winter, very hot in summer.
