FEBRUARY 2 ELECTION
At least advance voting in 35 polling stations revoked

BANGKOK: -- Advance voting of February 2 snap election in Bangkok opened Sunday with chaos as anti-government protesters blocked the venues, resulting in cancellations of the voting in many areas.

However, the voting in other provinces can be proceeded as scheduled.

As of 10am, at least the advance voting in 35 of 50 polling stations in Bangkok were cancelled. They included those in Bang Bon, Pathum Wan, Bang Kapi, Klong Toey, Don Mueng, Dusit, Thung Kru, Bang Kho Laem, Min Buri, Thawee Wattana, Lak Si, Bang Sue, Rat Burana, Ratchathewi, Bang Khen and Chatuchak.

Election Commission secretary general Puchong Nutrawong meanwhile said that the advance voting the north, the northeast and the central started and continued without problems while those in Bangkok and the south were blocked.

The protesters arrived at many polling stations hours before the stations were opened for voting at 8.30am. Some were seen arriving as early as 5am.

Veera Yeephare, director of Bangkok’s Election Commission, said voters, who registered to vote in advance and cannot vote today can cast their ballots on February 2.

What a complete and utter hypocrite you are.

A million times to type the word "thug" and when it suits you you applaud thuggery.

What a banana republic... Who is supposed to protect voters and make sure they exercise their right to vote?

Unbelievable.

The police are moving now on one mob.

The fascist spokesperson for PDRC is bleating on Twitter that they are being attacked. Big cheer went up all down Rama 3 area when MCOT showed the PDRC getting a kicking.

Might be a lot more of this if they not careful

The election now and Feb 2nd is a waste of money again. If the voting is done in february it will be unlawful because of the lack of candidates or similar. The shinaclan is losing ground all the time.

Apparently you're not concerned about the law protecting a citizen's right to vote.

More importantly it doesn't seem that the police are...

I wonder why.....

No it's not.

This is what happens when peoples right to vote and access to the democratic process is threatened.

I fear that we have a clear view in to the machinations of a "peoples council of good people"

Incredibly sad day for Thailand

If the police did their job, the protesters wouldn't be able to block the voters.

YES!! I was actually just going to post this very photo. THIS is what needs to happen. Everyday regular people who want to VOTE need to rise up against Suthep's thugs and administer non-lethal violence. This is the only way these entitled jerks will back down.

A swift whack to the shin or a strong poke to the stomach with a piece of wood will be enough to send the hi-so madams running home, never to dare to protest again. Steel bars are, unfortunately, probably needed to fend off the "nak leng" thugs (mistakenly often called "guards")...

If his thugs are the 300 baht/day paid guards, would you fight for 300 baht? The picture doesn't show any actual fighting, it shows angry voters with sticks. I think a lot of these protestors won't want to fight for that pittance.

Now we know the EC can't use 'worry of violence' as an excuse to cancel the election, they can clear the polling stations and let them vote.

Are you for real?

The EC's concerns about violence were well founded

Just a couple of days ago Suthep declared, that his protesters was going to protest in accordance with Ahimsa ( the non violent philosophy of Ganddhi)!

So I guess what we are seeing here, is Ahimsa mixed with a dose of Thainess??w00t.gif

Well, it has been non-violent. Except for the pro-government side so far at least.

Police are soooo weak!! Scary. To fail to protect/ secure polling stations, seems like Yingluk doesnt really want the vote to hapoen?? Strange. She knew this outcome.

So it is Yinglucks fault, that the erand-boys for the Elite aka Sutheps undemocratic mob is preventing the Thai people from exercising their democratic right??

What are you going to blame her for next?? The cold wheater?

Some posts here are beyond stupid!!bah.gif

He's right. Its a gross dereliction of duty.

I'm pretty sure the press will see it that way too.

SoE, all the resources at hand from the police and armed forces and this happens.

Poor poor governance

You know perfectly well that the presence of the police will also be a catalyst for violence.

Your comment is disingenuous at best.

Maybe the real question is why the Army are not coming out to allow people to cast their vote as the protesters seem to feel they are "neutral"

It's all the more distressing when the Army claim to protect and support the will of Thai people.

It would seem that this protection does not extend to protecting the Peoples democratic rights and their right to cast their vote.

Taking all of the above into consideration I feel that my previous comment stands.

When ones democratic rights are threatened one will fight to defend them.

But what we have instead is violence from civilians. If the police don't come out, why should the army?

Isn't that why the protesters are protesting: because they feel their democratic rights are being threatened?

It is bad enough, that we have Thais fighting eachother in the streets, but even worse that we have posters here coming from democratic (?) countries, supporting the eradication of democracy!!

Yes Thaksin and his cronies are bad, but the neo-facist Suthep and his amart backers are dangerous,

so don't let your dislike for the Shins turn you into supporters of something even worse!bah.gif

Take a look at the streets today, and imagine what life would be like under the "peoples council" !

The irony is, that the system you blindly are supporting today, in the future might see you escorted to the airport, so you don't put any stupid ideas of civil liberties into the head of Thai people!

Wake up!!coffee1.gif

You've got an interesting crystal ball.

attachicon.gifBe3cCzBCIAECxeg.jpg

In your two pictures, in the second one I count 16 protestors sitting down. (None bleached skin Bangkok elite I think).

In the first one, those don't look like protestors, they look like frustrated voters. There's no flags/whistles/insignias, and the only Thailand flag I can see is on the man I circled and that might be on his shirt for other reasons.

And don't forget the incident with Chalerms son.

His son, army at this time was in the same pub with a policeman. The policeman got shot. Several people saw Chalerms son doing it.

Unfortunately there was a big outbreak of Alzheimer and at the court no one could really remember who did it.

But the army kicked him out.

So surely the policemen on the street really love Chalerm.

Under the Samak government Chalerm installed his son back into service against the will of the army.

So surely the army brass love Chalerm.

Additional he has some "ear problems" and the medicine something brings him a bit out of balance.

So surely he is the best fitting person to be in charge of Police and Army.

Latest update, 18 polling stations in BKK out of 50 have already been closed.

When they close them, does rent-a mob move to another polling station? Or do they hang around to make sure the polling station remains closed?

Heard that protestors and election committee officials more or less move together from one polling station to another to declare them closed .... There are not enough protestors to cover all polling stations, so they could be easily reopened, if the EC really wanted and the police did their job. But, I guess expecting government officials to do their job is asking too much in a country like this. Only the puuyai matter.

The election officials wouldn't move from one polling station to another. The officials are assigned to look after one polling station.

Any you believe that such acts, using pieces of '2 by 2', would not result in the escalation of violence...?!

I think you're right in saying a swift whack to the Shins is what's required, but why stop at the Shins, why not all of their extended family...!
