BANGKOK: -- The protest site of the Network of Students and People for the Reform of Thailand (NSPRT) was attacked by M-79 grenade launcher again before dawn today, causing injury to a protester.

The grenade attack happened at about 3 a.m. today at the NSPRT’s protest site at Lard Phrao intersection.

The grenade landed on an open space not far from a tent where anti-government protesters were relaxing and sleeping.

Protest leader Issara Somchai said the M-79 grenade was believed to be fired from the overhead tollway and fell on the ground inside the Jatujak park where protesters were staying overnight.

One protester was injured and was rushed to hospital.

He said he was seeking the Explosive Ordnance Disposal police to inspect the scene this morning to find out exact location where the attacker used as a position to fire the grenade so that his security guards would step up more stringent measures to protect protesters.
There are many CCTV cameras in the areas and there might be clues to find the attackers.

Mr Issara’s house in Raminthra area was earlier attacked with grenade which caused damages to his parlour, car and also his neighbor’s house.

EOD police arrived this morning to inspect the scene and collect grenade shrapnel as evidence.

M-79 grenade shot into protesters at Lat Phrao; one wounded
By Digital Content

BANGKOK, Jan 29 -- An M-79 grenade was fired into the rally site of the anti-government protesters at the Lat Phrao five-way intersection, wounding one protester and damaging two cars.

Issara Somchai, a key leader of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), said he heard an explosion at 3.47am at the Chatuchak Park rally site and assigned guards to inspect the scene.

He said the grenade was believed to be shot by M-79 launcher and fell at the MRT underground ventillation building inside Chatuchak Park where protesters were camping.

One protester was slightly hurt when some bomb fragments hit his arm and two cars were damaged, Mr Issara said.

He said the assailants were initially in a black pickup truck on the tollway and shot the grenade into the protester tents.

The attackers might have been in a hurry, causing the grenade to miss the target, the protest leader said. (MCOT online news)

I suppose this is part of the last convulsions of a fading regime. The shinas and their many followers know their reign is coming to an end. It takes some more time for them to accept it.

But but but... They won the election! This is obviously a case where the protesters shoot their own, right? Not?

If police aren't going to catch any wrong-doers, what can we do about it? We could pass the hat and try to get some donations, which would motivate the police to do their jobs. US or British or French detectives are more adept than Thai, but there would be language barrier. We can't expect Yingluck, Chalerm and their buddies to push for decent investigations, because it would be like them pursuing a criminal investigation of their own family members.

Well things have truly escalated now. The reds have finally started using their grenade launchers. They used it to attack yellow shirts when they were protesting. They used it in 2010 and they're using it now. Shows how desperate the Shinawatras are getting. Oh and for the red spin doctors, a disgruntled Bangkokian mad that he can't vote doesn't have access to a M-79.

Shinawatra democracy anyone?

Well then, you'll just have to check with the navy and see if any of their toys have gone missing, won't you.

REDEMOCRACY will make a return,... wanna bet??? Hired thugs courtesy of the man in Dubai in cooperation with Hun-Sen's secret staging grounds....

There was a thread on aliens this week. I'm surprised you haven't asserted the aliens have been conducting anal probes on the martyrs of the PDRC.

The allegation that Cambodians were involved has not been proven nor has any other military official supported the Rear Admiral's claim. Fancy that. Not one. You'd think someone would have rushed to back him up. However, you have accepted the unfounded claim as the gospel truth. Nice.

Not to detract from the seriousness of the situation, but if that is the damage an M-79 grenade launcher does then a vindaloo and some strong farting might make for a more useful weapon.......

M-79 is the launcher. Pretty obsolete Vietnam era, single shot launcher that's been replaced in most applications.

Quite an assortment of 40mm grenades that can be used in the M-79, from non-lethal up to pretty scary.

BTW, found it on Wikipedia. I'm no expert.

Coup coup coup 2010 - caught you cliche cut and posting again.

Can't image you'll get your dictator now, so... Maybe Shinawatra Democracy is better than fascism for most of the country and the rest of the world.

Crazy as it sounds. but 2009 came before 2010 as did 18 coups, mass oppresion of the people. You'll never learn now as you have made your bed with Suthep. Most are not blinded by his idiocy as you will find out when you grow up.

There are so many, that Wiki has indexed them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Military_coups_in_Thailand

Most countries oppressive acts fit on one page. thailand has 15 different pages of oppresssion, all by the army, all for their own benefit and none for the good of the Country. I even thing some in the forces are wondering about the effetiveness of coups

For Clarity.

This IS how the world sees the Thai Army

This is how most of Thailand see the Thai army and Elites.

Aspiring Fascist Dictator IS how many see Suthep.

Many of the mob been getting cold feet as well recently, which means maybe they have been exposed to some normal balanced media instead of embarrassing themselves by listening to and quoting BlueSky and the likes.

Enjoy it, as when it fails, this could be the very last coup attempt ever in Thailand as there is a Generation shift going on now. Suthep and his old buddies all having one final fling. Good chance to show the world on last time, what garbage they are

... and in the mean time the world may start to wonder why almost only anti-government protesters are attacked, shot at and killed. That is assuming the world has nothing better to do.

Oh and by the way it would seem foreigners can finally buy land, in Bulgaria that is.

Any EVIDENCE that it was Red shirts?

Any EVIDENCE they were instructed by Satan himself, Thaksin?

Any EVIDENCE?

No?

Thought so!

There is no evidence solely because there is no investigation. Some 40 attacks already, and not a single perpetrator identified or arrested by the the police? Get your head out of the (red) sand, please.

Someone asking for evidence, must be a red?

Why is that?

Because all the Suthep- disciples don't need evidence, to get to their oppinion!

Thanks for clearing up!

By the way: not red...just not blind on one eye!

If it waddles, quacks and looks like a duck, it must be a duck. Plus, expecting the Shinawatre administration to compel police to investigate, would be akin to Chalerm asking the police to thoroughly investigate who shot the cop at the Don Muang nightclub.

Still almost all violence against the anti-government protesters. could be red-shirts, could be police, could be disgruntled voters, could be fools and idiots.

What seems clear though is that the police is totally incapable of offering good protection. Next we'll hear the suggestion to go home because no protection can be offered at the moment.
