Thai Cars and seat belt length

Featured Replies

I am a big lad and while traveling in taxis I have had difficulty as the seat belts are not as long as on EU or US cars even with the seat fully back and lowered. On my first hire car in Thailand I got a Toyota Fortuna SUV and the belt was OK but on my next trip I am considering to save and hire a smaller car eg Honda Jazz or equivalent. Any big guys or galls out there got any advice on makes or models which have an issue with short belts or you know have good length?

Any constructive advice appreciated. Dieting is not going to solve the problem quick enough 5555

Honda city barely long enough for a baby seat. Thai built.

Volvo V60 long enough for 2. Malaysian built.

Only ever thought about this when putting a baby seat in.

Basically Thai built cars are built on the cheap, money is saved as much as possible.

they could leave off indicators, both exterior mirrors and the interior mirror as they never use any of them

It's because Thai's don't like foreigners and don't want us here…

The Thai's have lobbied the manufacturers to keep the seat belts 'slim'….

No way… how would the girlies do their makeup without an interior mirror ? (not restricted to Thailand!)…

interesting i thought volvos where built in the thai volvo factory but never looked into it...or does it depend on model?

Try to find out where the airlines purchase their seat belt extenders for the larger people.

Why not just buy a seat belt extender as below: (About US$5)

Or ask a car shop to make up one! Job done!

Im tall and find all seat belts want to cut into the side of my neck, are they mounted lower on door pillar.

make sure the slider on the door pillar is all the way up

does big mean fat in this instance?

No big means more than just fat it's very obese in my instance, cheers for asking...

Off topic posts removed. Moved to Motoring.

make sure the slider on the door pillar is all the way up

Wouldn't that reduce the ability to circumnavigate the flab?

It may be better to push the seat and/or the backrest further back.
