Chadchart plans to generate 1 billion baht income annually in the logistic sector

BANGKOK, 6 Feb 2014, (NNT) - Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt plans to enhance performance of the logistic sector with an aim of increasing the sector's annual income from 500 million baht to 1 billion baht.

The comment was made during this inspection of the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Ladkrabung District, a special train station equipped for handling and temporary storage import and export containerized goods.

According to the Transport Minister, the ICD handles only 1.3 million out of approximately 6 million containers of import and export goods that go through Lamchabung Port every year. Out of the 1.3 million containers, only 440,000 are transported via rail roads. The rest are transported by trucks, causing heavy traffic jams, especially on motorways.

In a bid to address the traffic gridlock caused by trucks carrying containers from ICD, the Minister has instructed the State Railways Authority of Thailand (SRT) to discuss with the Department of Highway regarding the construction of direct routes linking the ICD to the nearest motorway.

He has also planned to increase the capacity of the special train station from 400,000 to 800,000 containers and to increase the frequency of train schedule from 28 trips to 48-56 trips a day. He hopes the measures would boost the ICD's capacity of handling containers, from 450,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers to as much as 1.19 million TEU containers as well as doubling its income from 500 million to 1 billion baht annually.

He also was planning to construct a safe secure storage depot to ensure the ''commissions" paid income concerning this project was not to be stolen by thieves in the night from ministry subordinates homes as recently happened in the not long gone past.whistling.gif .

Instead of building a rail-link to a convenient motorway perhaps the caretaker-Transport Minister might think it a good idea to modernise the rail-system, so that it can handle much more inbound/outbound container-traffic at up-country handling-facilities, moving more traffic off the over-stretched roads onto trains. instead ?

Oh, but that would mean admitting, that the high-speed hi-so passenger-railway currently proposed by PTP, is actually not at all what the country really needs. wink.png

Fair enough, get as much away from the port by rail as possible to holding depots.

From there it can be organized by destination into rail loads where possible and on to trucks where there is no rail connection.

Don't forget that there are plans to double track the system and upgrade rolling stock and when this is done it should be used to best advantage, should also be cheaper than road for the end client.

Don't slag him just because he is PT cabinet minister he does appear to be one of the few that thinks and once free of the ball and chain of Dubai he could be very useful to the country.

Well, good on him. That seems like a huge amount of effort to go to for the year. If he can carry it on for another 130 years he will just raise enough money to pay for what is being lost with the amount of money owed to the farmers on the rice scams current pledging debacle.
