Seeker1953
All set to watch the Winter Olympics, are you? Not if you have True Visions - I just called and the attendant checked twice. True Visions has no contract to broadcast the Olympics. None. Nothing. Nada. I am disappointed and disgusted.

KhunBENQ
I think Thailand has some athletes competing at these Olympics - but why interrupt silly game shows and soaps?! Just one, half farang/thai. Well known musician Vanessa-Mae. Interest in Winter Olympics in Thailand estimated: 0.0000001 %. (matching the number of expats interested in winter sports) If one has a decent internet connection (3 MBit/s or better within Thailand): forget about satellite TV. Get an IPTV solution as fast as possible. BTW: I am currently watching the opening ceremony, downloaded from a German TV broadcaster. A bit tricky as I need to involve my VPN. Videos are region locked and can not be seen in Thailand "normally". Edited February 8, 2014 by KhunBENQ

canman
Hardly suprising that coverage of winter sports is poor in asia, nothing here in Singapore either. You wouldn't expect coverage of the pan asian games in the UK or North America would you.

But its quite annoying that an expensive service like True Visions gives a .... about their farang customers. Even worse at GMM Z (competitor), still no english language content on the website: http://www.gmmz.tv/ Edited February 8, 2014 by KhunBENQ

Didn't realise these were sports? No, but awfully boring since Stirling Moss and Fangio retired. But the point about the Olympics is well made.True is becoming more trouble than it's worth and has a contempt for its subscribers.

Could have sworn I was watching the six nations rugby on TRUE last weekend. Yes, 6 Nations is on True. The Olympics have to be broadcast on free-to-air TV. If True had bought them they would have to have shared them with terrestrial TV. I guess they felt it wouldn't be worth it. Can't say I blame them, from a commercial point of view. Like it or not, sports rights is a commercial business not a charity. Edit: The Opening Ceremony was live on True Channel 77 Edited February 8, 2014 by brewsterbudgen
brewsterbudgen
The TV rights for the Winter Olympics in Thailand have been "re-sold" to local broadcasters, which means Channels 3, 7, 9, 11 etc can broadcast the events they think will be popular. Expect to see the Thai alpine skiers! All the channels are carried on Truevisions. Edited February 8, 2014 by brewsterbudgen

wayned
There are not a lot of SEA countries participating in the winter Olympics, so there's not a lot of local demand. A marketing decission, not unllike others that True has made, that affects farang more than local viewers. CTH outbid them for the rights to televise EPL and Euro Sport.
