I keep reading that LPG is going to increase dramatically, even read that is will soon be about 26 Baht per litre. If this is true, will it cause another Bangkok protest by taxi drivers?

Most use NGV now.

There is not so many NGV stations, and if the government was ending the LPG subsidy, surely it will do the same with NGV.

I through the price was going up a little on 1 Feb but it didn't still 13.50 where I live and 12.76 (close guess) in Bangkok.

About 14 50 where I live.

I may be wrong, but I think that NGV isn't subsidized.

Oh yes it is. The gov't wanted to end the subsidy, but the taxis and truckers got very angry. The taxis said that if the price of fuel was to near double, the taxi rates had to rise accordingly. Fair enough I'd say. Taxi rates are a joke here and have barely risen in 10 years. Don't understand how they live of it, unless they own their taxis.

The price was supposed to rise to 14.50 p/kg for CNG/NGV, but stuck at 10.50. So it only rose 2 baht.

Don't think the present "Government" wants to upset another section of the population at the moment especially as they might give the farmers a lift to Bangkokwink.png

According to world prices the cost of LPG (Propane) is about 47 baht per US gallon. Given that there are 3.79 litres per US gallon that converts to a price of 12.4 baht per litre . I am a bit puzzled as to the level of subsidy !!!!!! Perhaps somebody can explain it.

The explanation is that LPG is not (always) 100% propane.

It usually is a mix of propane and butane.

Also when a government talks about subsidy on Fuel, sometimes they really mean less tax. E.G. Thai Diesel.

In another thread, IMHO pointed out the summary on the eppo web site. This shows the current LPG Ex refinery cost + Marketing margin to be 14 baht/kg and the retail price 21.4 baht/kg? Coincidentally (or not) the page detailing LPG prices today is under construction.

Was it ever subsidized or was it simply not taxed. Financial/politician types are very loose with the meanings of the words they use.

Subsidizing would mean the government is spending money to artificially lower the price. Not taxing means they don't actually spend any money, they just don't benefit from sales.

They told everyone they were spending money on our behalf but in fact they weren't.

Just asking.

The problem is with the opening of borders brought about by the ASEAN treaties, people of neighbouring countries can buy LPG in Thailand, take it to their home country and sell it for a profit. If Thailand is subsidising LPG, this will cost the nation money. Even if they're not subsidising it, the government will want to cash in on this anyway buy taxing it.

It will probably go up, but I highly doubt it will go up to ~26 - that figure seems to be derived from the price in neighbouring countries.

Indonesians have been for a long time "exporting" cheap fuel to neighbouring countries like Malaysia as in Indonesia it is or was artificially low. In small boats and in barges (with connections).
