It is a stark contrast to what is happening on the streets. This administration can use every means of force at its disposal, but they will be powerless in a court of law. It will be fascinating to see how Yingluck defends herself in court. She will have no minders, no cue cards. At the end of the day, the evidence will speak for itself. That might well be Somchai Wongsawat, seen today on TV depositing money in a GSB branch accompanied by the venerable Prompong Nopparit and Charupong Ruangsuwan and other PTP luminaries. Strange to see them depositing their ill-gottens in a government bank, normally these sort of people are taking money out to store in safes in their own homes. Marginal holdings (5 rai or less) considered as "near landless" holdings represent 9% of total holdings. Region wise, the Northern region has proportionately larger holdings than the Central Plain and the Northeast. The distribution of land operated is quite unequal: 66% of farms operate only 36% of the land area.while the top 2,3% of farms operate 13,6%. In her capacity as chairwoman of the National Rice Policy Committee the "neglect of duty" would be the most appropriate charge I would have thought. As chairwoman she has the overall responsibility for the scheme and any corruption within it is because of her neglect. That cannot be highlighted enough considering she did not attend one single meeting. The way she handled (or in this case didn't handle) the warnings from government officials and international bodies regarding the corruption in the scheme does not show her in a pro active light either. I honestly don't think she knew about the corruption in the scheme, well the specifics anyway. thaksin would not have allowed her to be aware of the specific corruption in the scheme a/ to protect her and b/ because she could let something slip in an unscripted interview which are sometimes unavoidable when leaving parliament to rush to your car. They are filling corruption charges against former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyapirom, former deputy commerce minister Poom Saraphol and 13 other individuals involved in the scandal though. They are the ones that dealt directly with the "nuts and bolts" of the scheme and the non existent G2G deals. It is ironic that thaksin was shielding her from the corruption in the scheme and it turns out that shielding her is what is going to bring her down. Though if she knew about the specifics of the corruption she would have done nothing anyway. Blood is thicker than water. When yingluck is banned from politics for 5 years this should be a lesson for yinglucks sister,yaowapa wongsawat (who was also banned for 5 years from politics) when she is nominated by thaksin as the next PM. People between 30 and 40 without any political experience or affiliation. A government of technicians: economists, graduated in political science, medicine, law, etc... I mean a government of "nerds" ...young guys with pimples and eyeglasses. Tough guys who know what is working, sacrifice, etc and with great dosis of talent in their areas. This is an interesting charge, are they talking about her real duty, or her idea of what that duty is, or was. She was, and is, under the impression that she was to look pretty, travel to lots of countries, shop as much as possible, and send her brother as much money as possible. Nattawut on Rice Policy And Nuttawat also carried out the "big" inspections of some 2500 rice storage facilities...(in 3 days or something stupid) and discovered that everything was in order .....no irregularities except for some very minor issues.....
