Is it possible that after 5 years These players stop working? I tried to use the available windows repair tools but no success.Can somebody give advise?

Download Gom player. A very good player and plays anything you throw at it. It is free but just remember to untick any boxes during the installation asking whether you want their search engine etc. If Gom doesn't play it then it may be your drive at fault

I downloaded GOM it does not play DVD

Is the DVD itself working? Can you hear it spin up? They do fail and can be replaced at low cost or a USB model attached - most people do not use computer DVD's anymore - many new units do not even have them. No there is no time limit on the software.

try vlc if that doesn't work replace the drive.

better yet start downloading films, no clutter, no scratches and no plastic involved.

do a search for "Shark 007 codics" free program

down load and install should take of your problem

You can't what?

Sounds like your five-year-old Compaq may need replacing. You obviously have additional problems besides the machine's DVD drive.

Media Player Classic plays anything I throw at it

Check out your DVD drive and replace if necessary
