Grand Hyatt Erawan or Intercontinental in Bangkok?

A friend has very good connections in the hotel industry.

He has very kindly offered to get us a cheap room at either of these two hotels - the Grand Hyatt Erawan or the Intercontinental in Bangkok.

As these are usually a bit out our of price range - which one offers the more "bang for your buck" as a special treat?

Many thanks wai.gif

Nana Hotel is widely regarded as the finest hotel establishment in Bangkok. The services you can receive there are second to none. Skip the Intercontinental and check yourself into Nana Hotel. You'll save quite a bit of money too.

Might go for the Hyatt as some of the suites look amazing...But then so do the Intercontinental! smile.png

Will keep you all informed.

isn't the reason for the "special offer" the proximity to the protest zone? Are you sure you want to be THAT close to potentially lethal incidents?

I appreciate what you are saying, but what do you do? Not got to MBK, Central, Paragon, Emporium, Terminal 21 or any of the other tourist attractions or restaurants in central Bangkok?

The hotels in Sukhumvit are just as near to the protest site at Asoke which imho is just as likely to get targeted. (Nana might be an exception wink.png )

Grand Hyatt was good enough for Prince Andrew on his last trip. Both very good hotels but Hyatt just in the lead. But their occupancy rates are about a tenth of normal due to the protests - so take care when going out. Stick to the Skywalk and you can get about without joining the "mob".

I think the hotels further down Sukhumvit (Thonglor?) aren't discounting at all because they don't have occupancy problems - I guess consensus is they're far enough away to be "safe".

Hit by bus - it's up to you, but there's such a thing as "looking for trouble". It's pretty hard to get hit by a bus if you stay off the roads plus keep an eye open, for example... not quite the same when there's people actively wanting a body count.

Better analogy - "can't get bitten by a shark if you stay out of the water"? (yes I am aware there is a movie called 'Sharknado').

Unless they're going to storm the Hyatt or Intercontinental I think we should be safe wink.png

Look at Grande Centre Point Terminal21 - around half price at the moment.

Stayed at a Deluxe Corner Suite at the Intercontinental - and had 4 passes for the Club Lounge.

So we drunk our moneys worth wink.png

IMHO - very small rooms (I looked at a normal deluxe room). Breakfast was very good. If you're paying I'd rather stay at Grand Centre point Ratchadamri in a 70m2 room and save 5k++ baht a night.
