I met Fred last April in Udon and found him to be a gentle man. We spent a few hours in Central Plaza over 2 days and he was a very interesting man. Is much speculation as to the reason for his horrible murder and I hope they find the scum responsible soon.

Deepest sympathy to his daughter and 2 Grandkids (Who Fred doted on)

RIP

If I understand well direct link to bangkokpost is not allowed. Thats why I post the FB page. Sorry if its not proper.

On the FB page of mode59 someone (perhaps 1 of his staff) posted:

Human work for you not animal you should remember fuc_king stupid man

So, they are speculating that staff was maybe involved in this dreadful crime

Mods, pls feel free to delete the fb page mentioned in my initial post and quoted posts after.

The story is in today's Thairath. It gave a few extra details.
As evidenced from the trail of blood, he was stabbed and killed at the front of the house and dragged out by the attacker(s) 30m or so round to the back of the house. Doctors estimate he'd been dead for ca 5 hours, putting the time of death at about 3am in the morning.
Some builders across the soi said he lived on his own and usually left for work in the evening and came back later in the night. Today they saw his car parked by the house as normal, but the front door was open. When they went to investigate they saw the trail of blood and followed it to the backyard where they came across the body so they alerted the police.
Police initially believe the motive for the murder to have been robbery because the owner was quite wealthy, owning a bar and nightclub in Udon Thani. Initial inquiries by the police have discovered that he'd been robbed recently so he'd taken to hiding the night's takings from his bar in his shoe as he returned home.
Police also believe the attackers knew him well and followed him back from the bar. They are studying CCTV footage from the soi to see if it turns up any clues.

Met the guy as well when I lived there...good all around person...such a shame. Note the Thai police will find nothing as it's their nature to do nothing where crime against a foreigner is concerned. Forensics, fingerprints to a Thai policeman is purely baffling.

This needs to be properly investigated.

Like it or not, the police in this case represent a political faction which is beginning to hold more sway than before.

The police must be reminded of the duty they have to hold these casual murderers accountable.

It matters little that he was a foreign national.

Udon expats have a duty to this man.

This is Thailand, police, government or general health, nothing is more important than money. The crime in the end will be unsolved & forgotten, adding to those past. And that's the main shame of this country now, then & in it's future.

Strange enough for a quiet town. My gal and I would end up their in his club almost weekly. It was the latest opening club that we knew of, and had good music, dancing and plenty of action. This man took the time out to come over and shake my hand...we had a few beers and were having an excellent time dancing, and fooling around with our pals there. My first impression was that he was a good man, and a his business was thriving. What kept Udon quiet was the lack of successful businesses such as he had. When big money comes, trouble follows.... Nobody knows exactly what happened, and rumors abound.

Definitely a wake up call about having any false sense of security. We need some kind of reward system for information..perhaps collected by one of his closer friends.

I never understand people who write such stupid wide sweeping statements like this. Sure, they may not be as well trained or diligent as your home country but give them a little credit, you may just be surprised.

The words are not just words but experiences from Krabi to Chiangmai to...very much, Bangkok.

But I also don't understand such narrow minded people making statements about what they don't know anything about. This is Thailand, not the west. Also found "by experience" that, depending where you are, let's say Krabi, you need to pay a considerable amount just for them (police) to conduct an investigation, but that's Krabi where the oldest families (gangs, mafia, whatever) have the most power.

So from tourist place to tourist place to errrr … tourist place you have managed to tar every policeman through out Thailand with the same brush. I don't think that is right.

On the other side of the coin the dealings I have had with thai police (mostly in Ubon) have for the most part been excellent but having said that I don't go around saying all Thai cops are great and they solve all their murder cases.

Just a quick note to say that I've removed the FB link from the initial post, primarily because they are very graphic and disturbing images. I have also reported the site to FB

I've also noticed that the Thaivisa news has run a story on this, which will have more information than this thread. So I am going to close this thread, please direct any replies to the news thread below:
