Hi all,

My gf is currently studying in the UK on a student visa which expires in September.

She is due to return to Thailand in June and therefore this student visa will not be allowed to be used again because there will be less than 3months left on the visa.

She will apply for a new one (student visa) when she is back in Thailand. However, my sister is getting married in July in the UK and I would like her to attend. Current rules state though that she will not be able to enter the UK again until 28 days before her course will resume in September so the earliest that she'd be able to go back to the UK would be 3rd August.

Is there any way around this pickle that we find ourselves in to get my gf to the wedding in July?

Would she be able to get a tourist visa even though she theoretically still has a student visa?

Obviously, she could stay in the UK until after the wedding, but we've already paid for the flights in June and to return in July. After the wedding, we could come back to Thailand to complete the student visa.

Any advice welcome. Thanks

There is no reason why she cannot apply for a visit visa even though her current student visa has not yet expired; but she will, of course, have to satisfy the ECO that she is a genuine visitor and will leave the UK at the end of her visit; i.e. is not going to use her visit visa to remain in the UK with you or continue her studies.

There is also the problem of timing; will she have enough time after the wedding to return to Thailand and obtain her new student visa before her new course starts?

Thanks for your reply.

There will be about 4 weeks after she returns to Thailand, after the wedding, when she can apply for a tourist visa. And approximately 6 weeks to get the tourist visa

I think this should give her enough time.
