Thai Airlines - Cheap one-way Fares

I need to fly with my new Family, Thai gf and 2 infants from Thailand back to Australia.

Usually I fly AirAsia or Scoot for a cheap price, but I reckon Thai would be best for this job.

Their one way fares are no where near 1/2 price of their return fares.

Is there any way around this?

Alternatively ... how far in the future can you put the return leg off for as we may not be returning for say 2 years.

Thanks in Advance.

There's no way around it if you want a low airfare. The cheap one ways are scoot, air Asia, virgin etc. if you want a full service airline Malaysian do offer good one ways if you move you dates about.

There are no cheap on way fares usually available on regular full service airlines. Instead, sometimes there one way fares are even more expensive than their promotional return ticket to the destination. Your best bet for one way tickets are the budget carriers such as Air Asia etc.

I'm happy with the Budget airlines.

But I have 2 boys, maybe 6 months old (so infants) to also get back to Australia.

Thanks for the replies above.

I would recommend Jetstar as they do not charge infants travelling with adults.

I would also suggest to choose Thailand English website as it fares seem to work out cheaper in some cases.

I've used them on a number of occasions with my then infant, (3yrs old now).

Good luck mate

You mean you don't know how old the boys are? Are they yours? Why don't you ask your gf how old they are. Seems a bit odd to go to Australia for 2 years with two kids and not even know how old they are.

I would recommend contacting a travel agent. I'm sure they can answer your questions quickly? I've communicated with these guys before and found them quite responsive:

I normally just book online, directly with the airlines. Except when I have unusual routings. Agents are quite good at helping with these!

An amazing misunderstanding of my OP ... facepalm.gif

How on Earth you get the idea that I don't know how old they are ... I was at their delivery 7 weeks ago!

At 'maybe 6 months' ... I want them to fly! We are not sure when my gf will her Partner Visa

The 2 year question was me thinking that, sometime in the future, my gf and the boys may come back to visit Thailand ... so maybe the plan would be to buy a return from Bangkok ... I just didn't know how long a return ticket is valid for.

Bit strange you're unsure of the age of the kids!!?? Do you have visas for them?

Again ... you are picking the wrong assumed information for another poster and not my OP.

If you knew Immigration Law ... and could make the flying logic leap that I'm an Australian citizen ... then you would know that the Boys are Duel Internationals and Australian by decent.

According, they don't need a Visa to visit Australia ... just an Australian Passport.

^^ so ... lets have less curious questions about their age and their lineage (I am their Father) and more information about how to get a cheap, one-way fare from Bangkok to Australia from Thai Airlines.

Thanks

OH ... please no Visa advice ... I actually wrote the pinned topic on how to get a Visa to Australia ... just that airlines are not my specialty ... biggrin.png

I often have to travel on single tickets with my work. On the premium (National) airlines the single fare is quite often just 50% of the normal full fare. It may be easier looking for a heavily discounted return fare and just not using the return portion, sounds crazy but thats how crazy airline fare structures are.

Don't know if it helps, but when my wife was granted Oz residency back in the early 90s we got some special deal from Qantas. I don't recall it being any cheaper than normal but it may well have been (for a one-way fare). We certainly did get extra baggage allowance as my wife was migrating to Oz. That was back when the airline was still govt owned of course.

You already know Scoot so I'm probably not telling you anything new here, but they have a good service to Sydney - only 2 hours or so stopover in Singapore. Some of the extra legroom seats are twins rather than triples, which would make it a little more comfortable for you.

On a cheap ticket the validity of the return will never be more than one year. As long as the kids are below 2 years of age whilst they travel out and back they will get the super cheap infant airfare. When Bruce and Sheila hit 2 they will pay a child airfare, about 75-80 % of the adult airfare. If you come back to Thailand before they are 2 you will save a bit of cash.
