Slaying and burning of woman teacher 'inhumane'
The Sunday Nation

PATTANI: -- Fourth Army Region chief Sakon Chuentrakul yesterday condemned the shooting and burning of a teacher in Pattani as an inhumane act.

English language teacher Siriporn Srichai, 43, was shot and burned on Friday while she was riding a motorcycle to work at Tabingtingi school in Mayo district.

She was the 170th teacher killed in the deep South since unrest flared in early 2004.

It was reported that Siriporn had asked for a transfer to teach in Yala near her home as she was unsure of her safety while travelling to school, but the request wasn't approved because there was no vacant position.

Sakon said the attack indicated there were insurgents who still want to stir unrest by attacking women. He believed the assailants were from the same group that had carried out attacks against other women.

Offering condolences to the victim's family, Sakon said attempts to bring peace to the southern border provinces were hindered by groups who wanted to create misunderstanding between the public and state authorities.

As for peace talks with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional, Sakon said they were dependent on the government. The change in the National Security Council chief would not affect the peace dialogue, he believed.

Why don't they just go in there and clean out these animals!.....all the army and security people seem to do is pick up spent cartridge cases and take pictures....

I just find it hard to believe, and understand, that many of the perpetrators of these crimes in the south, are not known....

They are known by the public. but the Government has shown no interest in stopping them.

"As for peace talks with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional, Sakon said they were dependent on the government. The change in the National Security Council chief would not affect the peace dialogue, he believed."

Peace talk with rebel groups who are no longer operating.

The Government needs to do it's job and make the people feel like they care for them. But the government concentrates all it's energy on area's where they are sure the people will vote for them. I believe Chalerm was the man in charge and Yingluck replaced him with herself. Where is she?

The matter is being handled by the army. It is not the Army's mandate to show that the government cares for them. It is there job to protect them in any way they can. Sneak terrorist attacks are not that easy defended. Let them know who the offenders are and things will change but to ignore them is only to make the matter worse.

My condolences to the family of the women killed and burned. This just go's to show how low of life scum the Government is ignoring.

About the only thing Thaksin did right, was to go after these pigs back in the day. The governments since him have done absolutely NOTHING.

One of the most ignorant statements I have yet to see ion T V.

For the most part since the day of ignorant slaughter the government has done nothing.

Since the Thaksin Okayed slaughter he has been calling the shots most of the time. Nothing has been done. The Democrats made an attempt they did not completely ignore them.

Sorry, but as far as I remember he divided three provinces into green, yellow and red zones. Green zones received full financial support by the government. Yellow zones only some support, while the red zones didn't receive any money from the government.

It was all made up where the terrorists used to live. Unfortunately, the result was that people moved to other provinces.

If Aphisit would still be in, I'd assume things would be different.

You do realise that you will now be slaughtered by all the bleeding-heart liberals, the Thaksin-haters and the Dem-lovers, don't you? Of course, what you said was quite right, appeasing these scum only encourages them to further gruesome savage acts.

What is needed IMHO is justice to ensure freedom of choice regarding religion particularly within any religion, enshrined in law to put a stop to coercion, brain-washing, penalties for descent, "the misuse/abuse of religion act 2014" - fines initially, deportation upon summary conviction - let's do it; it could become acceptable in all civilised countries like the anti-smoking or anti-paedophilia laws.

It would stop religion being used as a control tool in civilised countries and force religious,control-freak leaders to go somewhere else or get a proper job - You know it makes sense!

There's me going for Utopia.

Unfortunately it was that action that exacerbated the current situation and why there will never be a solution whilst a Shinawat is around.

There has to be dialogue and compromise not more violence. Won't be easy with the radical muslims though who aren't exactly known for seeing the wider picture.

Because on most clean out actions more innocent people than bad guys are killed. Usually these kids growing up knowing that the state killed their innocent father and not even saying sorry are at big risk to be the next terrorist......So by fighting terrorist with brainless violence (best example how not to do it is the USA, shooting just at everyone in Afghanistan) you are generating the next wave of terrorists.

Beside of the moral issue, that if retaliation just on the next few men, women and children you can find you are nothing better than the terrorists.

Radical muslims seeing the wider picture? Wasn't the term "tunnel vision" created just for them?

Just dripping with the milk of human kindness aren't you.

Did it ever occur to you that it was not that big as problem until Thaksin went on his murder spree.

He took a small camp fire and made it into a raging forest fire.

If I might suggest it Antarctica has a low population.

They of course would have to import their bomb making material.

Always nice to hear from their supporters. Just cheap attempt at insults no real knowledge. You do have a couple of other supporters here on your view of what is happening. Disgusting but you are allowed to be as wrong as you wish.

Not surprising given the coverage the Nation gives them.

Read the Bangkok post. The southern terrorists make the red shirt murders look like babe's in the woods.

An UN force would be best since Thailand is not able to act for themselves against those crimes against humanity. Thailand is too juvenile politically with Huge Ego's.

In the mean while this UN force can clean up Malaysia as well; you do not want to know how many Arab Moslim (potential) Terrorists are harboring themselves there.

When I think about a murder spree, I can only recall Abhisit. During his government misery people were shot in BKK, Rohinja's being pushed back on the sea, Lao h'Mong forcefully deported back to Laos where the GOL was waiting for them. Thaksin is a leader, Abhisit is an airbubble with a necktie.

The only thing Thaksin managed to do was to rapidly escalate the situation. His stupid remarks after the Tak Bai incident would have fueled a lot of anger and rage and the dismantlement of the local ranger units in those districts, the only guys who had really good intelligence and connections down there was a massive tactical cock up !!

big difference in Europe with the exception of Spain they are immigrants and the Government should not have allowed them in.

Here in Thailand they are natives born and raised in Thailand and for the most part in relative peace. Yes they had some problems but they were not a daily event until Thaksin shifted his murder crusade against drug dealers to the Muslims.

Ask your self If you are born in a country and a citizen from day one raised in it educated in it would you not like to have your government make you feel welcome?

All though I was born a citizen raised and educated a citizen in the States and now live here in Thailand I still feel welcome in the states.

OMG...Is it just me...or is there something very wrong with this picture...

Either wipe these criminals off the face of the earth...NOW...or give them a piece of land and build a fence around it...
