webfact
Speeding Truck Crashes, Flips Over In RangsitBy Khaosod EnglishBANGKOK: -- A truck has crashed and flipped over on an elevated road in Pathumthani province. The incident reportedly took place at around 01.30 today in front of Future Park Rangsit shopping mall in Rangsit district. The crash has caused the cargo potato flour and some of the vehicle's petrol to spill onto the bridge and the roads underneath. Officials scrambled to cover the petrol spill with sands to prevent any ignition, and clean the flour off the roads.Mr. Suthep Thongnum, 44, said he was driving the cargo from Prachinburi. When he approached the curve on the bridge, Mr. Suthep said, he could not slow down in time as he was driving with high speed, causing the truck to smash into the barrier and turn over its side.Apart from the driver, no injury was reported.Police say the same elevated road was the scene to a previous accident in which a loose container fell down from a truck into a public van, killing one person.Source: http://en.khaosod.co.th/detail.php?newsid=1395376769 -- Khaosod English 2014-03-

otherstuff1957
Petrol? Most trucks are powered by diesel or CNG. If it was CNG it would probably have gone up in a fireball the moment a policeman lit up a quick cigarette.
impulse
I can't think of many substances that will make a road more slippery than potato flour mixed with some water. Hope this doesn't cause more problems.

tomross46
Police say the same elevated road was the scene to a previous accident in which a loose container fell down from a truck into a public van, killing one person. Are the police telling us that the accident was caused by the elevated road? I feel it is more like, the drivers think they are Jackie Stewart.

draftvader
Ah, that clears that up. It was the high speed that did it. I'll bet that K Suthep will sleep well tonight knowing it wasn't his fault!

kingstonkid
I live there and the part of the overpass tht this happens on is an S bend in the road . There is absolutely nothing that can be done by authorities to stop these guys. There is no room for a police man to stand and say slow down. There are signs that say it is a bend and all of the drivers I am sure have driven it before. If drivers are going to drive too fast on this part of the road then they are going to be caught by the supreme law " gravity". There is absolutely no reason to be going fast on that stretch.

seajae
maybe speed govenors as they have in buses and trucks in Australia might help but thwen possibly driver education would also work. These idiots simply drive flat out everywhere, the amount of times I have had to swerve or brake because a truck simply cut me off so he didnt have to slow down or didnt want to stop at a red light isnt funny, they think they can do as they please and have no idea about speed and gravity, they are idiots.

Why ask
I drive the said over-pass everyday, and it is not a constant curve, but tightens and tightens more around the bend. Even an old lady driving a Nissan Micra would struggle to keep line at 30Km/h. This is an accident zone known well, but the fkr who oversaw the project was likely as sober as Chalerm. I drive into it coming from the Navarnakorn Phayonyotin side, and know as soon as I am going up the ramp it gets tight. Anybody not knowing it would not expect such a curve. It is not consistent sterring wheel angle, and gets tighter. It is not part of a road, as previously posted, but is an upraised side turn, almost like a normal overhead U-turn. It is a death trap, as it has proven to be. What is done? Nothing. Blame the driver, and say he/she was driving too fast. Even at 40Km/h it caught my wife 1st time. transam
To think, 44 years ago I took my UK Heavy Goods Vehicle driving test that took a total of 2 hours, one mistake in practical or verbal questions and you were out. No question, apply again for a test.
Popular Post noitom
Those Thai vans from Mo Chit to Thammasat and back are death traps. Loaded with 15-18 students weaving in and out, drivers talking on their mobiles at very high speeds. Thai death traps.

monkey4u
So we have a truck driver who wants to be a race car driver trying to take a curve in the road, at high speed Did he think his vehicle was able to do this with all the extra weight he was no doubt carrying. Where do these knuckle heads get their licence and more important What mentaly challenged person would employ them Please Mr Plod DO YOUR JOB

Maybe it would help a little Most speed limiters are electronic and can be bypassed with out much work Volvo trucks only need 1 small earth wire to cut The only near perfect limiter is the diff ratio that is designed to give a lower top speed A 4.11 ratio with an overdrive gear box will give a top speed of 160 plus KPH assuming you have enough horse power

Maybe it would help a little YEAH! It's called a tachometer, been in use in the Western world for 20 years. It's the black box of the cab driver and the truck/lorry/juggernaut functioning times and actions of it. The disc from the tachograph is placed into an analyser after each trip, and reports speeds driven, time driven, breaks taken, hours driven - blah blah Western rubbish. As Thailand doesn't recognise it's uncle, in Western standards, who really gives sweet FA? Let Thais roll on, and roll on and roll on, despite never learning from hitting a brick wall. Forget speed limiters, one can't fool a tachometer. Then again, Chinese tachometer copies are probably likely available in BKK somewhere, with an additional button to turn it off. TIT; such is life. Don't let it worry you too much... much more interesting things going on. MEL1.
