would you recommend relocating to Thailand to friends back home?

Featured Replies

If you have been here long enough to have removed the rose colored glasses, would you still reccomend living in Thailand to friend from your home country?

Yes or no and why you feel that way please.

I think that depends on what type of person it is. I have some friends that would do well here and others that would just not be able to handle the many temptations. So "Yes" and "No"... depending on the personality.

I wouldn't, because if things go pear shaped (which they easily can for some here) they and their family might be pointing the finger at you. Besides I'd like to believe my friends are clever enough to make smart life decisions either way.

Without a doubt, no.

But personally, I might be too far gone to go back ...

Been here ten years (in my 60's)....and with all its quirks (cultural or otherwise) I have a great life here. So yes I would (and do) recommend Thailand to my friends...but in the end its their decision so I tell them to come for a vacation first and take it from there.

Most, if not all, of my friends back home though have their families there and their lives revolve around them ....so in the end they will not move anyway. ....Oh well ..."you can lead a horse to water...."

only if the friends want culture, weather, and food.................lol. what else is there here?

No, as my home country offers them a more secure life than Thailand would.

If the person wants to witness how different a place can be from more mature societies in the west, yes

If the person wants cheap sex or companionship, yes

If the person wants to instantly raise his intelligence relative to the surrounding population, yes

otherwise, no

Not unless they had money in the bank in case of problems , it may not make you happy but by God it can make you comfortable.

It all depends on the life they've got in they're home country.

Most people I know could not adapt... I am adapting ... finding ways to have what I want in the ways of food, drink, medicine, comfort... Adapting to how living conditions are different -- but quite livable if you have a mind to make it livable. Most people I know - especially members of my family back home in the U.S. just could not handle Thailand - no matter how much it has improved in the last 10-20 years... Most Americans want unquestioned comfort as they have always known it and are not really willing to adapt to something different -- something not found back home (bathrooms different, light switches - where are they why not just like back home, meat handling, odors, sounds, language, and a whole lot more. All of 'back home' can be found here - but at a price for the 'Full Monte'... and many Americans do not have the kind of money needed to reproduce their exact American lifestyle here in Thailand. By this I mean most people I know back in the USA just could not live in a place for more than a couple of weeks that was not as they fully know it back home... One in Ten maybe...

On a case by case method -- very limited I could recommend to a few - come live in Thailand.

Yes for sure. At least for 'full package' expats it is already in high demand as a location to bring a family.

Sure!

Would be nice to have more young professional expats trying out life here, even if not forever.

Would be nice to see an interesting and diverse community mixing together.

Im sure the various cultures would find it interesting as well as interesting for local Thai too.

Only to complete sex maniacs with plenty of money

It's all about the money...

If you have a regular income such as a pension or work you can do remotely from Thailand, I would say Yes..

If you've just divorced and have a settlement such as selling the house, I would say definatley NO!

You need a regular income to stay in Thailand, otherwise the money will just dissappear and you will find yourself back on a plane home in no time.

If I thought that a friend or friends living in my home country were financially able to afford living in Thailand and the right age, 50 or over, yes, I would recommend locating to Thailand to friends.

If the person wants to witness how different a place can be from more mature societies in the west, yes

If the person wants cheap sex or companionship, yes

If the person wants to instantly raise his intelligence relative to the surrounding population, yes

otherwise, no

If somebody had to move here just to feel more intelligent I'd advise them to stay at home. Some of the posts I read on here certainly reassure me of my superior intelligence though. smile.png

Mature societies.......?

Cheap Sex?

Surrounding youself with lower intelligence to look good?

Sounds pretty pathetic....not anything close to what most of us come for.

A new adventure after a lifetime of a droll work environment.

A warmer climate.

Lower cost of living.

Companionship with like minded farangs

Perhaps a good relationship with a lady who don't weigh a ton and a half

Cheaper health care for those over sixty, who cannot get that at home.

A beach view....a few laughs with friends...something exotic to write home about

It can be positive.

I would say ''YES', but it all depends on the type of person...

Some of my friends, would love it, some would not survive..

Thailand works for me, but i am easy pleased, and have a simple but nice life, something that i could not back in the UK...

For me i have 5 star luxury, for 1 star price...

But i have assets in the UK that keep me going and will keep me going in years to come..

No.

Why not ?

Because since I have been here I have witnessed a lot of crap.

The topic title question states "recommend", so no l would not, but that doesn't mean l would tell anyone not to come here. smile.png

Stupid & answering for mayhem question. Though, NO. Recommend anyone to avoid this country. It's the heart of disease a country can offer & not talking about biological diseases.

No not really. They would miss the high quality lifestyle as we have in Europe. No money can buy that in Thailand. After all you want a safe place for your kids/family which Thailand is sure not. Also the bad manners of every Thai would annoy them to much and of course the language barrier. If you don't speak thai then sure that is a problem.

There are much better places with same climate as Thailand. Much safer, much better food, much more things to do, much easyier to get a job or buy land. As a westerner in Thailand you will always be a stranger.

You can go to the places where all foreigners clan together, become an acoholic and drink all day but that's not what i prefer.
